Riiight...the majority is only smart when they're voting for something you agree with.

Will of the people or not, I just don't think marriage needs to be a government issue.

Frankly, I don't care who you want to marry...just don't force me to honor a marriage that I don't believe in.

If you preform weddings i dont think anyone is going to force you. A church has its right to not marry someone. There are many christian church that are more then willing to marry gay people.

They didn't. There is nowhere in the Constitution that says everybody has the right to get married anymore than it says everyone has the right to drive a car. o why is that so hard for you to comprehend Jase?

And let's see how far you'd get in the courts if you tried to pass a bill outlawing a minority, we'll say unmarried mothers, to keep it biblical, from driving cars.

This case will change the face of the sexual orientation debate in this country. Ironically, we can thank you conservatives for bringing gay marriage to law - since without Prop 8, this wouldn't have reached the Federal courts anytime soon.

And just think, if it goes to the supreme court and prop 8 looses again, That will mean gay marriage will be legal in EVERY STATE IN AMERICA. so really the only people conservatives have to blame are themselves. If they keep appealing with no legal grounds that's whats going to happen. I dare them to do it.

Cheese and Crackers! I hope this happens soon! I honestly thought I'd never be able to marry (I'm in Alabama), but there's hope! :)

That'd be awesome. It'll be nice to be in a country that finally treats all its citizens as equals.

Yet you insist others honor your marriage

Now, now, she probably pretends marriage has no legal benefits whatsoever. Like being listed as next of kin which allows you to visit your loved ones in hospital if they're hurt. But you can't be allowing THEM GAYS to have THAT, can you?

On the contrary. Why do you suppose gays are fighting so hard for the "right" to marry? It's not for the purposes of saying they're married...they've been doing that for years. It's because they want the benefits that heterosexual couples receive from marriage. The only option I'd have as a business owner would be to get rid of ALL benefits for married people so that I wouldn't have to recognize a marriage that I don't view as being Godly.

Yeah, that is the same option a person has if they do not want to give benefits to interracial marriages that they believe are unGodly (regardless if that is a good belief or not).

You don't have to believe in it. I don't recall a part in God's word where He reached down from His throne and consulted with Jase or any other sinful man as to what would be sin.

See, that is what happens when you read your abridged version of the Bible.

Which makes me wonder how the state of Mississippi can deny a 'basic civil right of man' to 20 year olds... Perhaps because no one has yet sued over it?

The right to bear certain arms is held until 21 in many states (or all, not sure, but irrelevant). Some things have not been challenged.

My sympathies for you being a gay atheist in the Bible Belt ;)

Thanks. But you know, honestly, it's not that bad. Most people just don't care one way or the other. ...the vocal minority are really the ones that are a pain. But I'm sure the same can be said for most places.

That's good at least. I would have figured you'd deal with more discrimination down there.

Yes, and it probably most states required one to be 21 to get married, but they don't. If I remember correctly, 49 of the states allow you to get married when you turn 18 without needing parental consent, therefore Mississippi is quite odd is waiting 3 more years. With the handguns, the states can likely show evidence that it is in the states interest to hold off allowing hand guns till one is 21, but I doubt the same can be said of marriage because of how rare such a limit is.

Are you saying you hire Ungodly People ?

Nope. I'm saying I wouldn't want to have to recognize a marriage that I don't consider valid.

Of course marriage shouldn't be a government issue, but as long as it is a government issue, people should have equal access to it no matter what your personal religious beliefs say, because some people don't follow your religion.

I have not said otherwise. Meaning, I don't care who gets married to who. If you want to marry your dog I don't care. It doesn't change the way I define marriage and how God defines it.

Yet you insist others honor your marriage

No, actually, I don't.

I've longed maintained that ANYONE should have that right.

Currently, my husband works in the non-secular realm. The church he worked at previously called a pastor from Canada to be the new pastor and he accepted. Since our church is not an equal opportunity employer, they had to pay $1,000 to be exempt from placing that EEO poster. We play by the rules all the time.
