My point is that many in the Bible Belt behave like the Pharisees - holding onto legalistic, literal tradition and ideals, instead of love, compassion, and equality.

Well, for short, the judge in this case used an imaginary definition of the 14th ammendment to over-rule the will of the people to grant abominations. We will see.

Marriage, in the US, is a secular institution that the government allows the churches to officiate. They may have gotten it from religious sources, but that has no bearing on how the law should rule. Your religion (not just Christianity by the way) has no place in the US government law.

So, in other words, Christians can use the Bible to justify evil behavior like slavery, banning interracial marriage, denying women rights etc., until the Liberals come around years later, fix the mess, show the conservatives why their literal approach is wrong, set things right, only for the conservatives to come back a couple decades later, and promote some more discrimination using the Bible as justification, only for the liberals to once again correct their errors.

Feel free to think it, feel free to judge it in your own mind. But only a judge wields a gavel and can judge in a way that has a real impact on another person's life. If you think that only God is The Judge who has this ability and role, then leave that role to him. If you go out of your way to tell me how wrong and icky you think I am, you're not being righteous. You're being obnoxious.

It is possible, after all, to judge a person silently, while recognizing their right to live a life you judge to be wrong, and not bother them about it.
