Could there be cars in the "new earth"?

Bear with me for a second.

I enjoy fast cars. I enjoy their appearance, their exhilaration and their looks. They are a celebration of man's creativity.

Man, being like God, enjoys being creative, so it stands to reason that man will still enjoy creating things in the "new earth".

At the same time, I don't imagine that *if* cars were to be made, that they would be made to be polluting. Somehow there would be some energy source that would allow them to run without pollution.

Now you may think this is silly, but I think Christians getting all excited about "mansions" is silly. I personally would get more excited about the possibilities of creating a "perfect car", rather than living in a "perfect house".

The car would be an expression of creativity and enjoyment. And it will be a perfect enjoyment that would not involve covetousness, idolatry or any other sin.

What do you guys think? A possibility or an impossibility?

I never thought of it, nothing is impossible I suppose, but have you thought about materials? Do you think there will be the same resources as now? :)

I don't see why not. I figure the laws of physics that constrain us here may or may not apply in heaven so it's possible.

I rather like the idea of God getting a group of guys together and saying something like "there's this area over here, I never got around to mapping it. Who wants to go explore it?"

I certainly hope not .
They are one of the most anti-social , and polluting ( noise , fumes ) , and dangerous inventions .

Like I said, *if* it were possible it would use an energy source that would be non-polluting. As for being dangerous, it is no more dangerous than any other invention used incorrectly or selfishly. We would be using them in an unselfish and considerate manner so they wouldn't be dangerous.

It's the same principle as any artform. Will we be able to paint? Will we be able to create songs? Will we be able to create sculptures? Then why not a car? I fully expect there to be fun things on the new earth such as water slides etc. A fast car is more fun than a water slide because there is no restriction in direction. If we could fly, a car would still be more fun because a car would be constrained by one's own ingenuity to overcome the limits of a machine.

Think about what is fun today. Is it more fun to walk down a hill, or barrel down the hill on a mountain bike? One way is safer and more controlled, and another way is more dangerous and less controlled. The latter is more fun because it is more dangerous and less controlled. Why would those principles differ in the new earth? I imagine in the new earth we will get opportunities to test our ingenuity and creativity in ways not possible before (because of the limits of human mortality).

Since the beginning of time, it is man's nature to be creative. Look at the ships, the chariots, the carriages, the buildings that man has created. Will man's creativity suddenly be removed in the new earth? Or will the limits of human creativity merely become unfettered in the new earth?

I like the idea of having the ability to create things that I am not able to right now, because of the limits of finances and my own ability.

There will be many thing we would not even desire to create because they will become thoroughly obsolete (like a microwave, fridge or any other appliance). However fast cars are fun - and fun never becomes obsolete.

You know they've made cars that run on water and have no emissions but big oil/gov has kept them from the public.

There will be burning of weapons for fuel so that no forests will be cut. There will be people traveling to Israel.

I think that after Christ comes, humanity will be shown how to do things right and technology will continue. It's possible that populating the solar system is on the agenda!

I certainly hope that's right. God seems to want mankind to continue to develop. Of course, tribulation could set technology back a thousand years.

I like to think that technology is part of God's plan though. Developing technology requires understanding truth. Underlying physical laws are inviolate and not subject to man's wishful thinking - kinda like God's plan.

On the other hand, I have also truly enjoyed being in the wilderness for weeks at a time without technology ... I think many could truly be happy either way.

Why not just fly? real fast! WE don't know all the options that come with the new bodies remember. Maserati, or fly? I would go with fly!

That's like saying, which is better: to physically be at a location, or to paint it? Why paint it when you can physically be there?

There is merit to man's creativity. For me, I'd imagine it being extremely satisfying creating a machine that's good enough for a particular task. Few of us have the resources and ability to create a car by ourselves. Well what if we had those resources and ability in the new earth? Would we not exercise that creativity?

To each his own. You may be happy flying around, but others will be happy exercising their creativity to make something. Why should your version of happiness be more important than mine?

It always made me depressed when I see some artist's impression of heaven being a whole bunch of people playing harps. Well what if I don't want to play harps? That sounds like hell to me if we are all forced to do the same old thing over and over ad infinitum that we personally are not interested in. Get my point? My point is: will everyone get to enjoy the new earth in their own way (within reason), or not? One of the driving forces of humanity is creativity and the need to create - why should that change? And if that doesn't change - then what would humans create?

It's a profound question.

I agree, it is a profound question. Humans have never had the opportunity to live in a perfected world in perfected bodies, willingly subject to our glorious Heavenly Father! Imagine the possibilities! And yes, we are like our Father - we love to create!

If you read accounts of people who have had visions of, or have visited, "heaven" in the Spirit, you will see that there is a lot of creativity going on. I've seen God's garden and the New Jerusalem...short visions. If you can imagine, there is perfect peace, a sense of safety, love and excitement and activity there. It is beautiful, of course.

A new earth in the fashion of heaven would be incredible. Whether or not there are cars, as we know them today, you will not be disappointed.

Better worry about be worthy and not concerned about the details. Most likely things will be so different and perfect that cars wouldn't be useful or maybe even remembered at all.

you guys are missing the point. Think about a unicycle. What's the point of it? It's clumsier, slower, less comfortable and less safe than walking/running. There's absolutely no point. And yet people enjoy a unicycle because it requires a certain skill and mastery to ride one well.

I imagine the same will be for a car in the new earth. There's probably no point to it, except that it will be an exercise in creativity and ingenuity.

What about remodeling your mansion? Is there any "point" to it? Don't tell me you get your mansion all "perfect" and you cannot change it in any way for the rest of eternity?

How about movies? We enjoy telling stories don't we? Can a creative person create a "movie" instead of verbally telling a story? I imagine the new earth will be just like the old one, except without sin. We wouldn't seek to do anything destructive but anything that is an exercise in creativity - why not?

What about human history? Will that be wiped out, or we be able to reminisce how life used to be like on the "old earth"? Can we keep any part of it, like a photo album of our kids growing up? Some believe that we will all have perfect bodies aged about 30 years old (like Jesus). It would be nice to have a keepsake of our kids when they used to be small. These are all related. Not necessarily everything from the old life should be discarded. Maybe some memories are worth keeping - the question is which.

Anyone see the movie "I, Robot" starring Will Smith? Will's character kept some 20th century Converse basketball shoes and a combustion engine motorcycle. Even though life was so "perfect" and advanced in the futuristic world, Will's character still liked things from the old world. Why would that change in the new earth? Wouldn't some of us reminisce about some harmless stuff from the old earth?

Once you have color TV, you can't stand to sit through 2 hours of the old B&W movies. This world and its antics that we are fond of should be forgotten before we get color TV; for what God has in store for us is way way beyond our imaginations. If we can't let these things go now, here on Earth, how will we be worthy of what's coming. It is in giving that we receive and no other way is it possible. Give to yourself by having faith in what is to come and giving it all away now. What is rich until you give it away and receive what is of immeasurable value? Many claim the Jesus prize, but how many heard him and obeyed him? The Word is no mere human word, but is a two edge sword that cuts all lies into. I don't see salvation coming to very many souls and it shouldn't. Why should it be so cheap and to make mockery of God and Jesus? Those who follow Jesus and conquer as he did are worthy for salvation. Sanctify your own words with silence when due and speech when God's Holy Spirit urges you to. The tongue is one thing for us to conquer and the world/flesh is the other big one. May you be successful in both. I don't think anything in this world is perfect or fitting in the one to come, except those who follow Christ to the next. Have a good day.

Well, on the TV thing; I remember growing up that B&W television was all we had. I didnt even think about it not being in color. It never occurred to me.

Then our family got our first color TV. White people were pink to red and black folks were shades of purple? After a little while we hated watching B&W programs at all.

Now I like those older programs and movies. Better stories mostly. Of topic I guess, sorry. Just sayin'

I'm sure a lot would go with the fly option. A lot more would doubtless love the idea of sweeping bends in a powerful car that didn't cause pollution where you could take the bend faster and faster for the exhiliaration but there would never be a concrete block in the road, there would never be someone coming the other way and so on.

Maybe we will get to try arriving at the power of thought. then change your mind and take that 90* turn!

A real nice car could be fun too I guess. I've never had one so cannot relate I guess.

I was saving for a porsche 911 and had the 4995 it cost just as the price jumped to 6995!

That was as close as I ever got to the 911S I really thought I could live with forever. After the injury in the military I couldnt use a clutch pedal anymore so I just got an auto transmission and settled for getting to where I needed to go.

sigh.

I can relate to that. I had a friend in college with a 912 (4-cylinder version of 911). I really wanted one at the time. It was kinda like a Volkswagen though in that something was always breaking on it. Finally satisfied my sports car lust with a brand new 300ZX. It was good for catching girls but what a dog that car was ...
