Some people need permission to think for themselves. Many others are too afraid to try. A few are simply ignorant of how to do so.
Where did Peter warn of private interpretation? When Paul urged us to what elders was he speaking of? I dont see the Ethiopian seeking continued help. Do you?Peter warned of private interpretation.
Paul urged us to obey our elders
The Ethiopian showed us the way - by seeking help.
So much for following the Bible, hey?
Yes Peter 1:20 shows that scripture did not come from personal interpretation. But men moved by the Holy Spirit. But Peter does not warn us that we cannot know the scripture.2 Peter 1:20 shows that scripture didn't come from personal interpretation.
Apparently the Bereans seeking to use scripture is an example for all time, but the Ethiopian seeking help isn't. Based on the fact that it just is.
Paul says (Hebrews 13:17) to obey your elders.
Right. ANd that is all he is saying about the ORIGIN of scripture, not the MEANING of it.quote=Montalban;2 Peter 1:20 shows that scripture didn't come from personal interpretation.
They didn't "seek to use" scripture, they immediately DID use scripture...Apparently the Bereans seeking to use scripture
Or so you would like it to be, but you disregard the fact that the Ethiopian was speaking directly to an author of scripture, and his question could have been answered without Holy Spirit intervention as it was simply a question of to whom the particular scripture was referring:is an example for all time, but the Ethiopian seeking help isn't. Based on the fact that it just is.
It's a rule, not an inviolable principle. If your elders get senile, you need to follow the principle, not the rule.Paul says (Hebrews 13:17) to obey your elders.
Yeah, so much for following it without common sense or The Holy Spirit. So much for following the Bible, hey?![]()

So that verse is uselessly irrelevant in addressing sola scriptura.
Please don't ever try it again.
I still see some making as a 'rule' what the Bereans did, but not the 'rule' in Hebrews
My Bible is without the guides saying "This is a rule for all time" and "This is just a strong recommendation".

Rev. 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
What do you suppose those Christians used? At the time it was written, there had been no Council, there wasn't any Tradition, there wasn't a Teaching Magisterium, but what existed? Scripture. OT and NT. John son of Zebedee, last apostlic eyewitness to die.
...Yes Peter 1:20 shows that scripture did not come from personal interpretation. But men moved by the Holy Spirit. But Peter does not warn us that we cannot know the scripture.
The Ethiopian was reading the OT scripture and God sent Philip there to show Him that those scriptures spoke of Christ. Then He was gone as quickly as he was there. For the Ethiopian was now able to be taught not of man but of the HS that dwelt within Him.
Obey those who have rule over you scripture says. So therefore the laws of the land and those who are in leader positions we are to obey and not only that pray for them. But as far as the Body of Christ goes we have no one other than Christ to Lord it over us. Scripture shows us we are to submit to one another. Love one another but no one is to Lord it over another in the Body of Christ.
He did. As Philip preached the gospel the HS opened his eyes and the truth came in.Why didn't the HS guide the Ethiopian (it was after-all post Pentecost)
Why didn't the HS guide the Ethiopian (it was after-all post Pentecost)
Where's it say this example of Bereans is for us? It just says that they used it. They, not Christians.
Paul says explicitly to keep to both teachings; written and non-written
You sound as if you think the HS indwells non-believer
