• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Post here if you have a family member with Aspergers or Autism!

I have a 15 year old brother with severe autism. He doesn't talk much and recites most things from the movies he watches (he watches a LOT of DVD's)

I love Chad though :D And the other day he said "hey how are you" which is like totally freaking amazing coming from him because it didn't have that tone like he was copying it from a movie he watched. It was so awesome. :)

how to deal with being half aspie and half nt ??? I just want to be one or the other and fit innnnnnn!!!! sigh

I don't think you can be half. Your either diagnosed with it or not (or not yet). I'm guessing you mean you have mild symptoms.

I can assure you there is not some big ASD club that you'd fit in with if you we're more autistic. I've never found it.

yeah .. You are some right . I have been over on WrongPlanet and identify so much there , the things I dont identify with tho are some of the bigger things . Jesus healed me of bi-polar disorder in 01 and there has been zero symptoms .. not a single one . but I am still struggling with all this other stuff and sometimes I just wonder why He left me this way . Why the half job ? I am not accepted in the normal world and not in the aspie world where all the symptoms I do have fit ..
No I am not diagnosed , I have no job at this point and no insurance to pay for such .

oh well Forgive me please for the pity party . thanks for your time anyhow .

My diagnosis was years ago. My sons is an on-going thing. School has been tough so we have been getting some help and it's just leading that way. Funny about a year ago, i told his counselor he probably had AS. The counselor said no way. Now, I am waiting for the I told you so. It's funny how we have to wait for the experts to catch up with us.

Well they said I grew up with some mind disorders which is why I am so much into the brain these days - I want a normal one.

They caught my Autism when I was 21. I'm 23 now - still have it.

I see you have it too. Do you like rocks?

By the way, don't talk to me if you want me to get off the Internet. It's my computer and I will get off of it when I want to. Ahhahaaah. I can be worse than your parents - it will not happen.

Oh, let's have some freaky thought patterns now.

A little of both. My special interest is The Lord of the Rings (I've read it 97 times) his is conworlding (basically what Tolkien did in creating his world). But he knew enough about my special interest that we were able to just click.

Honestly with me and relationships, we either click and become instant friends or we don't and there's no chance. My husband's more outgoing than I am, but still has Aspie socialization problems. I used to try but not anymore. It's either I talk about my special interest to the point of boring everyone to death or I can't talk to anyone at all. With my husband, his Aspie issues in this area are more reading body language and hearing voice tone.

Other than the areas I mentioned, I have a few sensory issues. Other than this we tend to balance each other out fairly well. I don't think I could have been with an NT, because most don't bother to get us. :/

My youngest son has autism. He just turned 8 years old.

We've had a Really tough few days here with his behaviors. He is on a gluten free diet which really helps him with his mood. Also he is on medication which we are adjusting/lowering.

Lately he is acting unusual. He has been deliberately doing things he knows are off limits. It is really getting to me! Especially cause it is school vacation now, also we are snowed in. I feel so overwhelmed today. If I get mad he thinks it is funny. Argh....
