  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If Christians do not live Christ-like lives...

Dear Autumnleaf. Christ died that we might live. Jesus told us, while He lived amongst us: " Love God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds. God can see our hearts, and He knows all our thoughts and wishes. God sees whether we love Him truly, or not. Jesus also told us, " love our neighbour as we love ourselves." Our neighbour is all we know and all we meet, whether friend or foe. We are told to love selflessly and beneficially. To love is a verb, a doing word, we have to show by deed and by word, our love to all. Jesus told us to Repent, to exchange our selfish and unloving character for loving without any strings attached. Be kind, considerate, helpful, (if needed) be forgiving, as God has forgiven us, encourage with words, smiles and helping hands. Jesus also told us: " unless we believe as children, we will not be able to enter God`s Kingdom." ( God does not want clever words, God wants our love, our hearts) Jesus also told us " Be perfect as God is perfect." Jesus knows that it is not easy to be perfect living in this imperfect world, where we are surrounded by all sorts of temptations. But God/Jesus will see our hearts, He will know how sincerely we have tried, to love as God wants us to. Jesus is waiting to lead us back to God, He is our Saviour, and God wants us back again, to live with His loving sons and daughters for eternity. I say this humbly and with love, Autumnleaf. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

are their immortal souls in danger?
I don't see an absolute requirement to live a Christ-like life. I see a requirement to strive to do so, as well as we flawed and sin-prone humans can. We will all fall short of living a Christ-like life. But when we stray, God knows if our hearts are still with Christ and will forgive us and help us get back on the horse every time.

It may seem like splitting hairs, but I think this is an important difference.

I assume you're meaning born-again christians, not christians who have just been brought up in the church and know the lingo?

I have struggled with that in the past. I was a very bad backslider for quite a long time and by outward appearances many people would assume I had not been saved. Thank God through His mercy He brought me back to Himself again.

If we had to keep a clean slate from the first day of our conversion, not even the apostle Paul would saved. In Romans chapter 7 he is very honest about how much he still struggled with sin (or the flesh) even though he was born again.

1 John 1: 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Most of don't live Christ-like lives as we are not Christ. We are sinners and struggle with what we would like to do against that which we aspire to be.

So, NO, our souls are not in danger - we can rely on God's grace.

On the other hand if we aren't trying to be Christlike then we are turning down what it means to be saved.

Yes, one needs to show fruit to be saved. No evidences of salvation=no salvation, when we're indwelled by the holy spirit at the moment of salvation , he will progressively produce more fruit of our salvation, we're still gonna sin, but over time, a true believer should grow to become more like christ over the span of a lifetime

yes, but forgiveness is possible while in this life. Peter followed Jesus for three years then publicly denied Him three times and was later forgiven.

Right, he messed up when he might have ended up on the cross next to Jesus if he was honest. Many, most?, Christians don't even try most of the time even as it pertains to the little things.

That being the case. Since I said the prayer and asked Jesus into my heart and all, is it okay if I go make a living as a hitman, drug dealer, or a pimp? I gots ta get paid and all.

If you want to be a hitman, drug-dealer or pimp it would appear that you don't want what salvation is.

If you have made that prayer in all honesty and integrity - why do you need to ask me?

As if hitmen go around asking permission.

My two cents: teach and show- both others and yourself- Jesus Christ as much as possible, and the rest will take care of itself.

No way!!!! If someone is truly saved by their faith in Jesus they will turn from their sin and seek to please God. They'll find a way to make ends meet morally or get assistance (as necessary) if they look hard enough.

Romans 6:1What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

We are saved by faith, but as a result of that faith we will bear good fruits. If we love God we will obey His commandments.

Matthew 7:24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

I am hoping you don't mean this to imply that you wish to live contrary to a Christ-Like life.

The answer to this question is in a way, yes, in a way no. They will be judged according to everything that they do. But at the same time, they will have salvation and everlasting life but the key being "AS LONG AS THEY ACCEPT YESHUA AS THEIR SAVIOR."

Isn't salvation a "get out of jail free" card for Hell? Seriously, its like the Mafia back in the day being sure to tithe regularly. They were sure to give God his cut.

Then why do so many Christians continue to sin after they are saved?

Jesus seems like the only Lord whose people tend to not do what they are told to. Statistically Christians do things wrong as much as nonChristians, in America. What does that say about the state of their salvation?
