  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How many of you have actually personally spoken to women who have had abortions to hear why they made that decision?

I've met many.

What would you say (or want to say) to a christian woman if you found out that she had had an abortion in the past?

It would depend on her attitude towards the abortion.

Most women I know who have had abortions in the past regret them and have expressed repentance for them.

Any woman I meet who has had an abortion, regardless of their current attitude towards it, will usually get an "I'm sorry you felt your circumstances were such that you had to end a life".

I have. Many times, in fact. We help to run three CPCs, mentor the girls there, and our youngest daughter is adopted from a young girl we mentored, who was planning to abort her.

What would you say (or want to say) to a christian woman if you found out that she had had an abortion in the past?

Depends. What are we talking about?

We do. Our congregations have many, many women that have had abortions. Every single one of them admit that they had them for convenience and were led to that decision by corrupt people (education system and society in general) that they thought they could trust.

To a woman, once they saw an ultrasound or had another baby, they were crushed by the realization that they killed their unborn child. But to their power and credit, they have accepted their actions through the forgiveness of sins. As a man in their congregation, I cannot for the life of me see how they could handle an abortion once realized for what it is, without the love and forgiveness of Christ. And also, to a woman, they say the same thing.

What would you say (or want to say) to a christian woman if you found out that she had had an abortion in the past?

Repent, rise and live powerful lives for Christ Who has forgiven them. Since that is what they say to each other, I know I am not saying anything wrong.

Thanks for the responses. I am glad to see that you have made the effort to minister to these women.

I must confess that this is an area I have struggled with. When I was doing my maternity training many years ago I heard of some very sad stories that to the non-christian "pro-choice" mind justified that woman's abortion. I overheard a couple of nurses quickly talking about a girl of 11 or 12 who had an abortion and her Dad was the father. On the other hand I know many abortions are done purely for financial reasons. I don't think abortion is ever right by the way.

It's hard not to judge in these cases, at least for me because I have children and I couldn't imagine making that decision. But I've actually been in the shoes of a medical issue where I was told by a doctor that I either needed to abort or I could die. Unfortunately, I miscarried, but I knew I could never choose to actively end the life that was growing inside of me. I know that some women could not make the same decision.

That's why generally my reaction is reserved until I know their thoughts on the matter now.

I've talked to a couple, including my sister.

I'm not what I would want to say to them but mostly I want to listen and try to find a way to help them deal with the guilt.

:wave:Hello: I'd like to know what kind of legal punishment Christians would impose if they were able to stop abortion by law? Would Christians put women in jail? And how would Christians find out if a woman had an abortion? Thanks Judy

a murder charge would cover it for me. Whatever murder fetches in criminal punishments would be fine as well. If anyone pressured her into an abortion, I'd make them liable as well.

I imagine we'd find out by the same means that we find out that people are guilty of crimes these days.

Back to the original question, it's very common for a woman who has murdered her unborn child via abortion to deal with that fact every year, around what would have been it's birthday.

I would say making abortion illegal is not on the table, but the debate should focus on public funding and availability. If the prop life side did that we'd be much more effective.

The pro death side should realize that if there were a shortage of qualified people wanting to adopt, their argument would be much stronger.

I agree.

For my part, I work at making abortions unnecessary to begin with.

And while there are a lot of people willing to adopt, there aren't a lot of people willing to adopt just any child. That does tend to create some issues in the system.
