  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No reason to. No reason to take any of your unevidenced animals seriously.
If you don't want to look for them, that's your prerogative; but then don't tell me they never existed and expect me to take you seriously.

Besides, I wouldn't believe you if you did look for them and tell me they don't exist -- so I'm surely not going to believe you if you didn't.

No reason to believe that they ever existed. It remains your claim and if you wish anyone remotely interested or slanted towards empiricism to be interested or take what you claim seriously - then you need to back it up. If you cannot or will not then this thread has no place in this subforum.

So what was the point? You inherently believe everyone here happens to be flaming liars as well. Why do you bother?

Says you.

I've got a very powerful Reason to believe:

See picture above.
If you cannot or will not then this thread has no place in this subforum.
Whether this thread is misplaced or not has no bearing on the veracity of its claim.

Cryptozoology, while viewed by some as pseudoscience, still is a viable endeavor for many, and I'm sure cryptozoologists don't start out by saying, "These animals don't exist."

If I was funding a search for the Loch Ness Monster, and someone on the team had your outlook -- I'd have him fired.
So what was the point? You inherently believe everyone here happens to be flaming liars as well. Why do you bother?
That's just too cheap to respond to.

No reason to believe the Bible is true.

See picture above.

What part of an empiricist being interested did you not get? Referencing the Bible to an empiricist asking for evidence for the animals in the OP would be ridiculous.

Whether this thread is misplaced or not has no bearing on the veracity of its claim.
Indeed. But it speaks volumes about your willingness to deliberately troll others in the subforum.

I'm so ashamed. A good job, AV then that I would never join an expedition to look for legends of old, or mythological creatures. The fact now that you are defending those who have conformation bias speaks volumes about how you don't understand how evidence is most appropriately and accurately gathered.

That's just too cheap to respond to.
It was not a rhetorical question, nor a deliberate cheap point - I was actually asking you. You seem to believe that you can predict everyone's responses, or understand that they are being willingly deceptive. You concede that you are incapable of evidencing your beliefs and indeed, one of the phrases you are legendary for is "Science can take a hike" - so why do you bother posting in a scientific subforum?

If you want to drag empiricism and your substandard science into this thread, that's your prerogative; but I have listed eight animals in the OP that empiricists like to whine and pout over, and bring up in our faces once in awhile.

Well, in this thread, I'm bring it up in yours.

These creatures are problematic for you without evidence (going by what you guys say), so think how problematic they would be if there was evidence.
Referencing the Bible to an empiricist asking for evidence for the animals in the OP would be ridiculous.
Good -- then take your myopic, dead science elsewhere and try and convince someone who doesn't know their Bibles how big and tough your cheap, weak, junk science really is -- (by comparison).
Indeed. But it speaks volumes about your willingness to deliberately troll others in the subforum.
Oh, but it's okay for you guys to constantly bring up how four-legged grasshoppers are examples of ignorant Bible writing, but I start a thread on it and I'm trolling?

AV, I'd say it is mandatory given the sub-forum we're in (physical & life sciences).

You have listed eight animals that nobody who disagrees with the Bible has any reason to believe in.

Well, in this thread, I'm bring it up in yours.

These creatures are problematic for you without evidence (going by what you guys say), so think how problematic they would be if there was evidence.
They're not as problematic as you think they are at all. They have no evidence. There is no reason to accept them. If, of course you hold a notion that empiricism, rationalism and the scientific method mean something (which of course, lots and lots of people do).

Good -- then take your myopic, dead science elsewhere and try and convince someone who doesn't know their Bibles how big and tough your cheap, weak, junk science really is -- (by comparison).
Except this is the subforum of Physical & Life Sciences.

Oh, but it's okay for you guys to constantly bring up how four-legged grasshoppers are examples of ignorant Bible writing, but I start a thread on it and I'm trolling?
They're presumably used in the context of Creationists who make pseudo-scientific claims directly designed to attempt to refute evolution. You do not see the literal beliefs of Scientologists posted on here, nor the literal beliefs of all sorts of religious groups that hold unevidenced and incoherent ideas to be literally true - because they do not attempt to dishonestly set themselves up in the scientific arena.

Don't worry, Skavau, he usually runs away from this question.

The difference is that we at least are willing to look at evidence for these creatures beyond the assertions you put forward. Of course, if you won't provide any, then that's your problem. If you wanted to be taken seriously, you might start attempting to earn back a bit of credibility this way.

In the sense that you're doing this for reaction rather than any actual discussion of a point, then yes, you are trolling.

I disagree.

If you're telling me that finding a species of four-legged grasshoppers wouldn't set the evolutionists into head-scratching and problem-solving mode, then I contend the transcontinental cable runs through Kansas.

And Heaven help taxonomists if all eight animals in the OP are found at once!

Until that day, they don't exist. I'd love to live in your world, really. It seems anything is possible, and any fictional characters can exist. Maybe I could finally get my dream job of being a Ghostbuster, then.

So no use even looking for them? or do you like looking for things that "don't exist"?
I'd love to live in your world, really.
I wish you did -- (pssst, and it's 'kingdom', not 'world').
It seems anything is possible, and any fictional characters can exist.
Nope -- I'm restricted to what I can believe in; and being a literalist, I am even more restricted in what I can and can't believe than my liberal brothers and sisters.
Maybe I could finally get my dream job of being a Ghostbuster, then.
As Bob Larson put it, how do you bust a ghost, other than through the power of the Holy Ghost?

See? I can't even join Bill Murray's outfit!

But if you want the number of Who you're gonna call -- it's Jeremiah 333.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

In that case, we should go looking for EVERYTHING ever thought up by man, because, hey, you know, it might be real!

So, I say we start looking for evidence of 90 foot tall rabbits. Sure, we've never seen any evidence of them, but they COULD exist, right?! Totally! Let's go!

When do we give up the search? Never? Nice little place you live in, where everything exists... it just hasn't been found yet.

I propose that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the death knell of Christianity. If you don't want to look for him, that's your prerogative; but then don't tell me they never existed and expect me to take you seriously.

Better yet, let the Bible pare your list down.

Search for things that can be backed up from Someone Who was there.

Let man think it up -- let God sort it out.

Show me this thing's kingdom, complete with serious followers who are willing to die for it, or it can take a hike.

Fromm BBC news:

Somali militants have threatened football fans they will be publicly flogged - or worse - if they are caught watching the World Cup on TV.
Gangs of Islamists are reported to be patrolling the areas they control looking for people watching games.
Dedicated fans are watching matches in secret, or in the few areas controlled by government forces.
On Saturday militants killed two people as they attacked a house where people were watching a game.
Militant group Hizbul-Islam also arrested 10 others at the house north-east of the capital Mogadishu where fans were watching the game between Argentina and Nigeria.

Now these are some serious followers willing to die for futbol. Does that mean soccer is god?

Sweet, I'll ask someone who was there. Oh, yeah, I forgot, they're all dead, and your God seems to be pretty quiet on the subject, for some reason.
