Be well.

Seems like a lot of Europe has far more discriminating tastes in food than a lot of people in the States...![]()
I wish I could get used to diet pop. I just can't. It activates my gag reflex instantly.

I do not want to get used to diet pop.
It gives me a severe headache and nausea due to the aspartame.
I totally avoid it. The chemical taste is not at all pleasing.
If I am visiting a friend, and they offer it, I politely decline and ask for water if nothing else is available.
I am curious as to how the diabetes rate compares. It wouldn't surprised me one bit to find out that the diabetes rate in the US is far above other countries.
Since I last checked
Scotland is the most obese country in Europe.
Czech Republic is the leanest.
I love the next statistic!
Leanest and most obese settlements of the United Kingdom:
Most Obese: Kingston upon Hull (South London)
Leanest: Kingston upon Thames (North-East England)
With an understanding of the diet and cultural heritage, it is possible to see how the South-East is more lean than the North. Fat rich foods such as pies and chips were popular with mill and mine workers as a source of cheap energy. Since the end of the Twentieth century such industry has ceased but the palette of the region has not changed.
Personally, if I were a dictator, I would place a tax on sugar and would give greater power to the food awareness sector. Also I would create state-run gyms and leisure centres, free of charge to tax-paying citizens.
Perhaps I've been following the UK Election too much! (results coming through as I type)

It is curious how the South-Western part of France, the largest producer and consumer of Foie Gras, has among the longest longevity of life in Europe Considering that Foie Gras is nearly entirely fat, it is remarkable until one bothers to read what sort of fat, namely unsaturated fat.
I am not condoning the liberal consumption of Foie Gras (though it is delicious if a little barbaric in its production), but just stating that fat does not equal human fat.
"People living in Le Gers, la Haute-Garonne and the surrounding areas, where duck fat, foie gras and confit take pride of place on the dinner table , have one of the lowest rates of death due to heart disease and the highest life expectancies in the whole of France". (Renaud, de Lorgeril, 1994, In " Le Régime santé " by Serge Renaud published by Odile Jacob).
Agree with all of what you said. Even the first part, now that I've thought about it. I personally think all those chemicals are going to be shown to be carcinogenic one of these days. I said before that I wish I could get used to it just because pop is just so sugary, yet I drink it altogether too much...
