  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey guys,
Just thought I would share some things that I've experienced throughout my teenage years.

I got into anime at a young age. All my friends were into the style. We all drew our favorite DBZ characters kicking butt and so on. As my love for the genre continued I got into the more violent more mature stuff. The thing about anime is that it might carry a teen friendly rating PG or something but the show could contain adult themes. Heck even pokemon had it's moments! As I said before I got into the more mature stuff. That was a catalist for a long lasting pornography addiction. Which I attribute to being weak and also anime. My parents were very cautious about what hollywood movies i watched but they saw anime as just cartoons.

So I would say if your gonna watch anime, be really careful what you watch!

Subsequently the only anime I have watched in recent years is "Howls Moving Castle"

Anime is kinda like any other media platform though... in the same way film can be excessively perverted or gorey anime can too. It's funny though, in our video rental stores anime is always in the kids sections too, even M15+ films seemed to be for kids as long as it was "just a cartoon".

hentai is designed to be pornographic so I suppose it is like any other porn.

^TRUE!

Anime was made in order to entertain all and wasn't supposed to be stained with dark blood (aka sin) unfortunately, there are some people behind that are placing sinful matters in it. One of which is "Hentai" and to the lesser extent, the "Ecchi" moments.
However overall, anime is not sinful.

Well you always needed to be careful and it does seem like they are releasing more with Ecchi content and the fan service has gotten worse as far as content goes then it used to be.

True, I found these animes for example...
-Rosario X Vampire (Ecchi scenes + Fanservice overload. Ep 1 onwards will pull it for you.)
-Kaze no Stigma (Same as the ones above like panty shots such as Ayano Kannagi and other FSes there1)
-Code Geass (My goodness, I can't believe that one of those awesomely done ever political and mecha animes became littered with those Ecchi scenes like some of those C.C. scenes.)

Well I'm unfamiliar with the first to series you listed Code Geass I see did it had some fan service. As far as the other part it was medicore at best overall don't get me wrong season 1 was really good but season 2 was such a train that by the last four episodoes I was debating whether it was even worth finishing.

Rosario+Vampire is simply an example of yet another show GONZO utterly butchered. The manga is actually interesting, but practically all the plot points from it past the halfway mark of the first run were abandoned or changed outright. I have zero problem with shows having sexual situations or nudity* (it's pretty much part and parcel for romance series, especially those of the harem sort), and I thought what happened with R+V was just ridiculous and insulting considering the source manga. It's inexcusable.

*within reason; I'm not really interested in Queen's Blade or Seikon no Qwaser at all - because the selling point is the ridiculous levels of fanservice, in addition to their utterly ridiculous plots (it's the same reason I have no desire to watch Eiken...put frankly, some hentai OVAs have less fanservice, and that's saying something).

I agree. These just sidetracks us from the Path of Salvation. Ahem... I have here four words that I can tell: No glory to God.
Why? Because it is a masked Satan's plot. This doesn't just end with anime, even with my fave genre 'tokusatsu'... In fact, there are some tokus out there that really brings down someting that ain't pleasing to God Almighty.

I'm not saying all anime is sinful to look at but in my case anime cartoons had a profound affect on my being tempted to look at pornography. Comparatively, censorship in japan is a lot more relaxed compared to say the US. I guess I'm trying to say, guard your heart!

Comparatively, censorship in japan is a lot more relaxed compared to say the US.
Japan is actually more restrictive in censorship than the US, at least by content. Japanese law requires pornography to be censored with genitalia obscured, US law doesn't. Things of more intense sexual nature usually are not shown during watershed hours, and anything that toes close to nudity or would otherwise have nudity is obscured for broadcast (but just like the difference of TV broadcast vs. DVD release in the US, where the DVDs are not censored, neither are they censored in Japan). Blood is usually recolored from red to black for television. If the shows were airing on Japanese cable or satellite, then the standards might be more leniant (except for the censored porn).

The reason domestic anime releases here often don't get that treatment is because we're getting the non-broadcast versions and we don't put most of those series on TV, so it's simply DVD in Japan -> DVD in US.

Some of the cultural norms in Japan are where some of the differences come in - ribald humor is more acceptable for larger swaths of demographics, and the ubiquity of bathhouses and the idea of parents/older siblings and children bathing together practically until the child hits puberty still being acceptable means they have less inhibitions about depictions of nudity or skinship (but to show it openly at any hour of the day is far far from the norm there). This gives an impression that there's not as much censorship, but it's really not - the gauge is simply using a separate measurement standard, like the difference between Imperial and Metric. In many ways, Japanese media is nearly as conservative as ours is.
