When I first heard the name I was imagining an apartment with all apple products that just ran your life for you. I'd get one of those. I'm not bothered about a touch screen computer, I'd just get used to it then be unable to use an ordinary comp. Also what if the touch bit breaks?? lol.

I was really excited about it before... now not so much. It really does seem like a giant iPhone without the phone... However, I'm going to wait until one of my coworkers gets one so I can make a final decision. But as of right now, I won't be getting one. I mean, I would be paying $629 for the lowest end 3G capable one... for that price, I can get a really nice Intel Core i3 laptop that can do everything the iPad does plus more!

The iPhone can do a lot, but it's still limited because of it's size. Even if this turns out to be a "glorified iPhone", I still think it would be worth it. I will probably get one after they release the 3G version.

I'm interested in seeing how Apple intends to compete with Amazon as far as books go. Kindle has an app for iPhone, so it would be just as easy to use the Kindle app as it would to buy them from iBooks.

What is your rationale behind buying one? Just curious.

I've been wanting some sort of e-reader, and I love all things Apple. I probably won't buy one immediately just because I like to see consumer reviews. Plus, I'm sure my brother will buy one as soon as they come out, so I'll see how I like his before I buy my own. As of now, I'm convinced I'll love it.

The only thing that I would really want that I haven't seen that it has, unless I've missed something, is a word processor that is similar to MS Word....or at least the capability to run one.

Yes, it will be able to run a variety of productivity suites. However, how practical and functional that will be on a touch screen interface remains to be seen.

Like the iPhone, I believe this product will only be as good as the apps created for it. So that means it needs awesome video games :ebil:

I am an Apple Geek and have been for many years, so I'm excited about it. I think the iPad will be something that's fantastic for those who want to use it for what it is meant for. There are so many who use their iPhones now in place of their computers. It's going to be similar to a netbook only more. I doubt it will compete so much with laptops and desktop computers because it's not meant for that kind of work. I think it will compete more with all the netbooks on the market. It gives those people who are wanting something small, simple, and easy to sit around their homes and read, play games, surf the internet, and email something more affordable than a laptop but yet with the quality and stability that Apple is known for.

It does have keyboard connectivity so that seems like it would make word processing easy enough.

I am definitely getting one. I travel a lot over the breaks from work and travel a lot also with the sport teams I coach. A lot of times, we will have 3-4 hours breaks in action at tournaments. Something like this would give me tons of options for entertainment. Books, movies, and music all in one convenient package, as well as it works as a nice planner. I can also upload pics from the events from my camera to the iPad and manage them right there on the spot.

I bought my first apple laptop about 3 years ago, and I don't think I will ever go back to PC. or me, the apple products are worth the added cost for what you get.

So, Apple have released a touch screen computer, which some say is a glorified iPhone. What do you guys think of it? Will you be buying one? Is there a use for such a device and devices like it?

I was kinda hoping for a tablet that runs Mac OS X, has an Intel-based processor, and a decent set of ports... like the Axiotron Modbook. Instead, we got a blown up iPod Touch. But, at least the price is reasonable.
