• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How can we see if there is no brain to interpret that we are seeing and what we are seeing?

A living eye and a dead brain doesn't see anything.

Why do the Photons stop causing chemical reactions in your living eye if the brain is dead?

PGP your sig cracks me up everytime I read it.

I knew a guy on a forum who actually used posted pictures to find peoples ip's then try to track them down.

I was tempted to use the Google APIs and the PHP script to show a Google Map of the IP's Location, but I figured that would freak people out too much, I've gotten more than a few PMs with just this sig :D I could just see the PM's I'd get if it showed a Map of their location (Well the IP's location )

Something along these lines -> http://www.iplocationfinder.com/

Physics riddle:

Do we see with our eyes, or with our brain?
Our eyes, inasmuch as our eyes are the organs that physically interact with light. Our brains, inasmuch as our brains interpret the photochemical reactions in the eye into an approximate picture of reality.

So, your question is moot, since it assumes a false dichotomy: we see with both our eyes and our brains. An eye without a brain would react to light, but 'we' wouldn't be able to interpret those reactions (without a brain, 'we' don't exist). A brain without eyes would have no reactions to interpret.

It also depends on what you mean by 'see'. If you're going to get into the nitty-gritty about what it means to 'see', you have to be clear what your terms are.

I think iplocationfinder is a bit out... it says I'm in Birmingham, when I'm actually in Bristol ^_^ (that's about 100 miles out!).

Well true it's not 100% accurate, but just having it show a map saying (I think I might visit this area :ebil: ) would freak some out.
(And actually I'm glad you can't use an IP to get an super accurate location)

You can, though: I live in a small town called Nailsea, and before I got AdBlocker, I was inundated with messages about "Hot, Single Women in Nailsea". So either they're using my IP to track me down to the nearest town, or there really are Hot, Single Women in Nailsea.

Here's a question: why can my IP be used to guesstimate my location? Who assigns it to my particular computer, and how, and why does it encode geographic information?
(I don't know the answers to these questions, so it's impossible that anyone else will).

Your IP is assigned by to your ISP in Blocks so IP address can be tracked down to the who is providing them by just about any whois server. The ISP then assigns you either a dynamic IP address that you might hold onto for a while, or a static IP address :yum:

So depending on what database is queried when getting info on an IP it just may give the Main Address for whom owns the whole block of IP address, or it might return that this block of address belongs to an ISP in Nallsea.

When you systems also makes a request from a server for a file, you can also get Computer Info, like what OS they're using, Screen Resolution, Browser, and other fun stuff :D

Do we see with a telescope?
Does a telescope see?
As I stated in a previous post, "It also depends on what you mean by 'see'. If you're going to get into the nitty-gritty about what it means to 'see', you have to be clear what your terms are". A telescope magnifies an area of incident light, thus allowing the eye to resolve what would otherwise be too small. If that constitutes 'seeing with a telescope', then yes. If it doesn't, then no.

Clarify your terms, and you will get a clear answer. Keep your terms vague and ill-defined, and you will get a vague and (presumably) unhelpful answer.

Is there more than one way to 'see'?
Obviously, that depends on what you mean by 'see'. If you define 'seeing' as 'photochemical reactions in the retina', then one can see with either rods cells, cone cells, or an artificial photodetector (whether that counts as three separate ways or one general way is, again, dependant on your terminology).

Clarify your terms, Doveaman ;).

Interesting. There are papers on this, so I'm convinced!
