  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So who goes to hell?

Lets see the Scriptures say about it
Jesus warns them here

Matt 15Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!

for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte/ newcomer ,

and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

twice as bad

hell is made by the increase of the wicked that is to be bundled and burned
Strong's G1067 - geenna
1) Hell is the place of the future punishment call "Gehenna" or "Gehenna of fire".

This was originally the valley of Hinnom, south of Jerusalem,

where the filth and dead animals of the city were cast out and burned;

a fit symbol of the wicked and their future destruction.

this is no joking matter there are many ''bound''

This isn't so much about the nature of hell, but rather how God determines who goes to hell.

What determines who is saved and who isn't.

The person sinning does. We send ourselves to hell by disobedience to the Father. When we sin we say to God by our will and actions that we love other things greater then him. The Father loves us so much that he just honors our free will and if we desire other things more than him he says ok and we do not have to love him eternally and we can love ourselves more.

Revelation 20:7-9 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

20:10-12 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

20:13-15 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

But you must remember hell is when we separate ourselves from God.

I think I'll leave the decision as to who is saved and who isn't up to Christ. That is his place alone to decide, and I don't believe He likes it when we try to do His job. I think that is exactly what He meant when He warned us not to judge others.

Christ, Paul, and John spoke about the types of people who won't be in heaven.

You are going beyond the scope of your own thread.

You asked who will go to hell, not what kinds of people will go to hell. Those are two entirely different questions.

And even though both Scripture and Tradition are pretty darn clear, the point still remains that no one on this material plane knows God's mind on the matter. There are plenty of people who I am sure are terrors now but may surprise us all by experiencing heaven. No one knows the past, present, and future of each individual except Him, and He isn't telling anyone anything about it.

I will not condemn any drunk. I will not condemn any heretic. I will not condemn any murderer. I will not condemn any thief. It isn't my business to condemn them to hell. If I were a priest, I may with permission from my bishop excommunicate such people, but that still doesn't mean they are automatically "hellbound." I'm not God, I will never play God, and I utterly reject anyone's condemnations.

And to be fair, I also won't commend anyone to experience heaven either.

Let everyone word of humanity on this subject be a lie and every word of God on the subject be the truth. I know of no better competent Judge than He.

"All shall be saved, I alone shall perish."

St Silouan the Athonite

This quote is not in agreement with scripture.

The unregenerate, unsaved, non-believers go to hell. And I would have to disagree when it's said that hell is simply separation from God. Yes, there's a sense of separation (sin is independence from God, is it not?), but hell is the wrath of God. He's definitely there and it's extremely frightening.

Probably gays, since everyone is offended by them.

"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination". (Lev 18:22)

"For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error."(Rom 1:26-27)

"Just as Sodom and Gomor'rah and the surrounding cities, which likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire."(Jude 1:7)

is this some sort of a trick question?? ;) But in all seriousness, I believe that if one doesn't believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, they're headed to hell. And one must believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior, not just savior. It's not like a cafeteria line where you can say, "i'll have a bit of savior but no lordship."

Good to be back!, i've been so busy with school and got in to a new hobby.. Photography! ^^ Got some photos uploaded in my sig

This quote is not in agreement with scripture.
The quote shows complete humility, putting all others above self and judging no one which is absolutely in agreement with scripture.
The unregenerate, unsaved, non-believers go to hell.
But only God can judge who those people are. You, me and St Silouan cannot.

The highlighted part is what I had in mind. Of course the next question is disobedience to exactly what in regards to the Father.

This quote is not in agreement with scripture.

St Silouan is emphasizing the need to consider oneself the "first among sinners" , to cover the faults of our fellow man, to have humility, and to leave the judgment of others up to God who is much more merciful than we can ever hope to be. It's obviously not a literal prophecy regarding what will take place at the last judgment. It's a way of thinking that brings forth repentance and non-judgmentalness.

Those who are saved are saved before the foundation of the world.
The ONLY justification God gives for His choice (of who is saved and who perishes) is His sovereignty. The ONLY "defense" God offers is His sovereign right to do whatever He will with His creation. He offers no other justification for his actions, anywhere, ever, in the bible.

The criteria for His choices are what suites His purposes best.

Fatalism is what God's sovereignty looks like, from a perishing point of view.

We make choices, but none of them by chance. We are subject to God's choices not chance. There is no such thing as chance, if there were, God would not be sovereign.
