  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fossils. Right. Thousands and thousands of fossils. Fossils everywhere. What does it mean? Evolution. Great story. No. Nature did it. Of course. Nature did it. What else are you going to say? How do you know? Because they're fossils. Right. Darwin said it. Oh OK Darwin said it. And it's science and scientists say it. Oh OK Scientists say it. Must be true then. Are you going to argue with science? No. Of course not. Can't do that. You believe in gravity don't you? Well, I know if I step off a clliff I'm going to fall so yes. You believe in germ theory? Yeah. I've seen pictures. So what's the problem? Evolution is like science like gravity and germ theory. Yeah scientists say it's science. Must be true then. I guess so if scientists say so. Germ theory, gravity, evolution. Ahhaa now I get it. It's science so it's true. No. Wait. Who said it's science? Scientists. Oh Right. I nearly forgot. Do you have any objective way of proving it? What do you mean objective? Something I can see. Fossils man. Thousands and thousands of fossils. Oh Right. Why didn't you say so in the first place? I did. Oh Right. But what does it mean?

No offense, but I feel rather embarrassed for you. Read a biology textbook. Take a Biology class with a lab. There is so much proof of evolution occurring that it is bordering on the insane that you are posting claims that there isn't.

I really hope you're joking. Evolutionary theory is a broad overarching theory that ties together multiple fields such as paleontology, genetics, microbiology. Heck, Biology as a whole. If Evolution isn't true, nothing in Biology would make sense anymore.

What do you mean biology wouldn't make sense? Would they stop dissecting frogs if evolution isn't true? Would everyone turn in their microscope? Stop the presses. Evolution isn't true. Scientists stop work saying there's no reason to continue mapping the human genome. Scientists around the world throw up their hands and go home. 'There's no reason to continue. No reason to live, really. My whole career was based on publishing that crap.'

You are deliberately misunderstanding my point, and it really isn't appreciated, it doesn't bode well for your posting here.

So allow me to reiterate: The entire field of genetics is based on evolutionary theory along with multiple other fields such as biology in general, paleontology, cellular biology. Our knowledge of science necessitates a theory of evolution. There is no other theory that makes sense in light of our current knowledge.

This is irrelevant anyways, because we kind of DO have proof. Unfortunately, since you are advocating a position that is non-parsimonious, burden of proof is on you.

Please prove Evolution wrong.

Yes but you and I both know (although you would never admit it) evolution is true, it's happening all around you now and will continue here until there is no life left, you don't like it and you wish it was not true but sadly for you it is,
me believing it and you not believing it makes no difference whatsoever to evolution, it will go it's merry way long long after the human race and it's Gods have disappeared completely, and even more quickly for you and me.

Fear breeds religions and death is the direct result of life.

Save it. You should consider yourself fortunate that I'm here to uneducate you.

Um, no. Some of us enjoy being smart.

As if I have nothing better to do. Do you know why you're here? Because you're not really sure. Because you and your fellow knobs need to reassure yourselves that you're not dreaming.

Actually, I'm here because I'm bored, and I honestly find this sort of thing amusing.

I notice you didn't bother providing the proof either proving Creationism, or disproving Evolution. Science is based on proof, not claims.

So you came back after a prolonged absence to whine at people?

AV, please come add some intelligence to this conversation. Pretty please?

Heh. In any case, if anyone thinks Evolution doesn't have any proof, I would direct them to the ongoing experiment of Lenski, in which over the course of 20 years he has observed significant evolution in Escherichia coli

Is this how you normally respond when you're caught in a lie?

It isn't a case of it being claimed to be true, it is true. Evolution is the logical inference from the evidence that exists - and there's probably more evidence for evolution than there is for atoms, gravity etc.

I get the feeling already that you couldn't do this to save your life.

As if I have nothing better to do.

Well..

Do you know why you're here? Because you're not really sure.

Ah yes, the classic "I know you better than you know yourself" routine, wonderful.

Because you and your fellow knobs need to reassure yourselves that you're not dreaming.

Charming, really feeling the love there.

I take it MarkT is hit his crisis point or his account's been hijacked by a 12 yo. I was tempted to the "knobs" comment for flaming but tbh want to see more of his posts.

EDIT: Oops mixed MarkT up with Mark Kennedy, he former has always been like this, good for the lulz.

Hi, Mark ---

Fossils are a testament to death, and death is a testament to sin.

Evolutionists like to daisy-chain these fossils into one long story of natural selection, fights for survival, mutations, and who-knows-what-all; but the Bible clearly paints a different picture.

There are creatures mentioned in the Bible that only an evolutionist can deny, and they deny them with passion; changing, as the Bible says, the glory of our uncorruptible God into all manner of birds, four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
Romans 1:23 said:
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

You have been told repeatedly that it is as much about cooperating and reproducing as much as this. Please stop bearing false witness.

That's not a very nice way of describing God's own creation.

Then again, you claim your opponents have the same level of faith as you, so so much for you treating things as sacred.

Either that, or I claim you guys have more faith than we do.

Demonstrated by you guys' ability to literally move mountains.

Were you going to explain exactly how it is we can use the Bible for scientific evidence?

And after that, please explain why we can use the Bible as factual proof while ignoring the Eddas? If the Bible is fact, how do you account for the fact that the Eddas say that Odin, Vili and Vé made the world from the body of the frost giant, Ymir?

I think the clouds are really the brain of Ymir, the stars are really nothing more then sparks flying out of Muspell.

Also, the Eddas says that Odin, Vili and Vé created men from ash trees, and women from elms.

If we admit one religious text as proof, we have to admit them all, unless AV can disprove all others.

LS, I don't plan to converse with you very much at all.

I'm not going to put you on my IGNORE LIST, but I am going to put you on what I call 'virtual ignore'; that is: READ-ONLY, if you know what I'm saying.

I'll say 'goodbye' to you by answering these two questions for you:
Were you going to explain exactly how it is we can use the Bible for scientific evidence?
Using the Bible for scientific evidence is like using Bill Gate's diary as a computer manual.
And after that, please explain why we can use the Bible as factual proof while ignoring the Eddas?
I use the Bible and Science like Boolean Logic:

  1. If it's supported by the Bible and science, I support it.
  2. If it's supported by the Bible, but not by science, I support it.
  3. If it's not mentioned in the Bible, but supported by science, I support it.
  4. If it's not mentioned in the Bible and not supported by science, I don't support it.
Examples of each:

  1. lions, lambs, Jerusalem
  2. satyrs, unicorns, four-legged grasshoppers, avian bats
  3. the physical age of the earth, giraffes, volcanoes
  4. faeries, Leprechauns, Santa Claus

Ok, well, when you can't refute someone's points, you are entitled to simply pretending said points do not exist.

I'll say 'goodbye' to you by answering these two questions for you:Using the Bible for scientific evidence is like using Bill Gate's diary as a computer manual.I use the Bible and Science like Boolean Logic:

  1. If it's supported by the Bible and science, I support it.

You fail to offer any support for the emphasized claim

Examples of each:

  1. lions, lambs, Jerusalem
  2. satyrs, unicorns, four-legged grasshoppers, avian bats
  3. the physical age of the earth, giraffes, volcanoes
  4. faeries, Leprechauns, Santa Claus

That is nice, I fail to see the part where you:

1. Prove that the Bible is applicable to science

2. Disprove all the rest of the world's religious texts.

Until you do those two things, you cannot logically make this statement:

Using the Bible for scientific evidence is like using Bill Gate's diary as a computer manual.

what is the basis for making this analogy? Why does it not apply to the Qur'an and the Avesta?
