Oh hold on a minute....there is a catch. You were too clever.

texas Lynn (who you are defending by proxy for some reason) DID scan my actual typed words.

I see now that there is a link in the OP.

Shux I didnt even scan it, I didnt even CLICK it. I responded EXACTLY to the Original Post. Yep, i omitted the article.

You can see the difference, surely, uh, cant you? Please oh please tell me you see it.....Im ruined.
Wrong again. The OP says nothing about any specific "thing", and yet you deduced that he was referring to something specific. With each excuse you dig your hole just a little deeper....

I guess you did not even scan the OP, you just threw out a bunch of off-topic crapola without even bothering to educate yourself on the topic at hand.

I know this thought will be roundly criticized but I personally don't see a problem with lying to someone, making them believe that very bad things will happen if they don't co-operate. You do realize the the police do that sort of thing all the time when questioning suspects and it's repeatedly been ruled to be constitutional?

Perhaps 'pretty please with a cherry on top' will get these terrorists to talk about how they plan on murdering us.

terrorist... 'Ha, you stupid infadels will die soon'

cia... 'do you know of a plot'

terrorst... 'yes, and your family will burn and die like they deserve, HA!'

cia... 'tell us when and where this will be taking place'

terrorist... 'no, you infadel pig'

cia... 'please tell us, here have a hamburger, it's from McDonalds buddy'

terrorist... 'gobble, gobble, slurp,'

cia... please tell us, pretty please'

terorist... 'burn in hell you dirty pigs'

cia.... oh, c'mon, pretty PRETTY please'

terrorist.... 'soon you will be in hell where you deserve you dirty scumbag infadel'

cia... 'c'mon buddy, pretty pleeeeeaaasse.... with a cherry on top?'

terrorist.... 'well ok, since you put a cherry on top... the bombs are planted at....'

Silly people. Use your common sense.

Torture is not a tool a civilised nation uses and not one that Christians can defend.

I have never heard of any instance where a police officer has used the phrases
your mother and family would be sexually abused in front of you
if anything else happens in the United States, 'We're going to kill your children
we are either going to shoot you or drill you, or maybe both
in an interrogation. Will you list a few real life examples?

IMO the nature of the lie doesn't really matter.

Are those things really any different than:

"Once your lawyer is involved we can't help you anymore"
or
"Your partner in the other room just told us_____"
or
"If you don't help us we can't gurantee the safety of (insert someone the suspect cares about)."

But they are not being criticized for the comments you made, they were making death threats. By the way, do you think that any of these captives ever had a lawyer if the interrogators had said
Once your lawyer is involved we can't help you anymore

I think the threats made by interregators being comparable to the threats(or actual actions ) of the terrorists is entirely appropriate.

The title is not a part of the opening post and the title of the thread cannot be edited by the average poster. Furthermore, the title has a limitation on amount of characters, so one names the thread in such a way to draw attention to the thread. Neverstop could have not placed all three quotes in the title, and he never typed one of them in the OP.

Of course none of this matters because you did not take the time to actually read the linked article for proper context. Nice try....next time troll a little better. thanks

Well, according to the article, anti-torture laws state otherwise. I guess that you believe it is ok to break laws.

Alleged terrorists, please...innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.... we are still Americans.....right.....we do still believe in the standards of the constitution.....right...

Yes, but only for ourselves. If it is some dirty foreigner, it is quite acceptable to treat them in a horrific fashion. I mean, if they didn't have something to hide they wouldn't be in a country we don't like, right?

Not really, I think that in this case the laws are wrong. Besides, I don't see how lying to someone has anything at all to do with torture. If it's acceptable for a US citizen to be subjected to the "torture" of being lied to, why not terrorism suspects?

Whats amazing is that you are serious. You likely think you have made some sort of a point, and then topped it off by calling me troll.

I wrote a lot of specifics on this in this thread.
A troll, incidentally, would be the athiest liberals here, by unofficial definition really. I'll even accept the ridicule I invite by saying, i actually FIT IN here.

Trolls will also pop in, stir, pop out. I havent, and wont

Best to go to alter-net or one of those cozy places, then call the Christian conservatives trolls. There, its my badge of honor.

You started down this silly path about scanning because I quite correctly and unequivocally caught Texas Lynn scanning my post in another thread (maybe you scanned that whole exchange because it actually WAS objectively obvious that she had scanned, I didnt say it for hyperbolic effect...its TRUE, demonstrably) are you Texas Larry?

I mean what started this? YOU DID. my comment on scanning was in the Barney Frank thread. Where are you headed and why? What does any off the scanning or not scanning have to do with the OP...since you seem an OP purist?

Lets see, I made the mistake of responding to a tiny fraction of what the OP was about.....got busted....admitted it. OVER? nope....you, while berating me to get on topic, have devoted yourself to finding a pony among my posts to prove I was scanning.....er, I admitted it?!? I understand that is foreign, it causes power surges and hard reboots.....its ODD I know.....but I admitted it.

If i was a detainee I'd call my lawyer. You are horribly abusing me, and no livbes are at stake.

Maybe consider allowing the other person to make their own remarks.....like "dirty foreigner"...etc. Well unless you have little figures on your shoulders arguing back and forth.....your seething emotionalism has you speaking FOR your opponent in the debate.

Shall we stand back and you conduct the whole thing?

I wrote a lot of specifics on this in this thread.
Below are your first three posts. None had anything to do with the OP. My comment stands.

Wow, invent a Christian that will defend something, then attack said Christian vigorously......feel good?
What a joke.
The term "strawman" in overused and often wrongly used on forums. I will send those who dont get the concept here to see how that works.

Don't bait me, I wont bite

In a thread on torture of detainees, I would, provided the discourse was more than what Im learning is the norm here which is sarcastic dismissal with semi-cute John Stewartisms, and zero factual depth. Kind of like arguing against folks that havent yet posted.

You could just do that in the quiet of your room/cubicle/office/car...and not expend the typing effort. Just create an imaginary adversary....um....lets just call him, oh I dont know, lets call him GWB, yea, then pretend he is in the car, and argue with him...insult him...make fun of him....carry his side of the dialog too....

Its fun.

Nope, the thread is about a SPECIFIC thing that occured. You asked about generally how i would respond to torture.

get it?

General......Specific.........they differ
