I have never heard of any instance where a police officer has used the phrases

IMO the nature of the lie doesn't really matter.

Are those things really any different than:

"Once your lawyer is involved we can't help you anymore"
or
"Your partner in the other room just told us_____"
or
"If you don't help us we can't gurantee the safety of (insert someone the suspect cares about)."

Furthermore, the title has a limitation on amount of characters, so one names the thread in such a way to draw attention to the thread. Neverstop could have not placed all three quotes in the title, and he never typed one of them in the OP.

Not really, I think that in this case the laws are wrong. Besides, I don't see how lying to someone has anything at all to do with torture. If it's acceptable for a US citizen to be subjected to the "torture" of being lied to, why not terrorism suspects?
