CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why did he take so long anyway? If he's all-powerful why would it take him 6-7 days? Couldn't he have done it in an instant? And why use our timescale?
All the more reason why mankind created god in their image.
Or.... God can't create any faster than 6 days (thus he is not all-powerful)
His rate of creation is capped and he created Earth in such a way that it perfectly represented his capped creation speed.

Of if God existed for eternity before creation, why wait so long to start creation ? (I've no idea on this one)

How that works exactly... no theist knows, but they sure love to use it to explain all the bad things in the world and if it's good, it's automatically god.
Maybe, just maybe, our universe was created by an evil god, who created us solely to torture and make us suffer, and only whenever he doesn't pay attention, good things happen.

That's funny. Because while a year is logical as it's one rotation around the sun, the dividing of 1 year into weeks is not as clear cut and there have been many different models throughout history. Weeks ranging from 5 days to 13 days.

The point is: He took 6 days on purpose, then rested the 7th --- then incorporated that into the Ten Commandments.

So when he created the universe and adam & eve, he knew mankind would eventually use arbitrary constructs such as 'weeks'?
Like I said before, a day is logical, a year is. But a week has no logical reason to be 7 (,or to use the concept of weeks at all).

Have you ever seen this book?
In it, the authors detail what really sparked the French Revolution.
They wanted to divide time up as follows:
- 1 day = 10 hours
- 10 days = 1 week
- 10 weeks = 1 month
- 10 months = 1 year
(Actually, it's been awhile since I've read that book. I'll dig it out and check my accuracy.)
