• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did Jesus go to hell?

cliffs:

Jesus on the Cross, says 'it is finished" gives up His Spirit, dies

Nicene Creed says He goes to hell, I disagree.

what is the AOG stance on this?

What's the stand of ChristianForums? Wouldn't want to accidentally get in trouble. :) Interesting first post topic. Any particular reason why you picked our forum? I don't see a faith icon.

sorry, dear.
I'm certainly not trying to cause trouble, I was just asking a question about doctrinal stance. It interests me to see the AOG's stance on this, it is not a systematical issue, in my opinion. I think everyone should have some opinion on it, I see it's not in your Cardinal Doctrines so I posted.

faith icon: I'm not sure how to add that, but I'll look into it. when I registered I selected non-denominational from the drop down menu, if that helps...but well, if it helps you compartmentalize something, then maybe I shouldn't value your opinion :)

Theologically, I believe very much like you do but before any physical manifestation, a Savior died on a Cross...and I like Him most of all

^_^ it's not about comparmentalizing anything ... I just wouldn't want to find myself having a discussion about Jesus and hell with an atheist (which happens to frequently ... which I'm alright with ... IF I know it) ... and I'm quite confused on the stand of cf on the Nicene Creed ... it was in then out then in ... whatever ... I also don't choose to find myself in trouble for something I didn't see coming. I apologize if that came off the wrong way ... and my opinion ... you won't see it anyway, so it's a moot point. I wouldn't want to give it based on whether anyone thinks it has value or not ... that's the Lord's territory ... you know ... shouldn't be partial and all that ... God bless

I understand, no hard feelings. Maybe this would be better suited for a theology forum, I have a dear friend that is a ordained minster in the AOG in Ohio, while speaking to him a few weeks ago, he mentioned displeasure at how he, and most of the pastors he knows, are unable to go deeper in doctrinal positions on certain subjects because of losing the attention of the congregants.

He stated that his denomination (of which I was apart of for many years) was notorious for running a river, a mile wide and an inch deep. I concurred but conceited that we all are guilty of that, in one way or another. That is a scary prospect, as Christianity is in for a fight against humanism, universalism and outright rebellion to God. The lie of the enemy is that we all make truth for ourselves, Jesus says I am truth. We face intense scrutiny over why we believe what we do, I would like to be solid in what I believe for a time like that. We can't argue anyone into the kingdom, but having solidity in our beliefs is paramount in earning the right to present them with the truth.

Truth is, I love the AOG. It's where I first attended when I encountered Jesus as my best friend and ultimate Saviour, it's where I was filled with the Holy Ghost. I will always love the Assemblies but in all my time there, I didn't learn doctrine...I had to go to a theological thinktank to be taught the importance of surmising a position on the tennants of our faith. That is scary...in every denomonation.

CF has gone back to the Nicene Creed as the Statement of Faith (SoF) for CF.

The Nicene Creed is not counter to doctrinal beliefs of the Assemblies of God.

You are safe to talk about it!

also, mods look not just at the written rules but on the heart and intent. Little miss HillBillyHippeeChick couldnt get in trouble if she tried!

With me anyway! :D

so this is a new development?
and that's a "yeah" to the Jesus in hell thing, right?

if it is a recent change I'm sure most people don't have knowledge of it, it seems like General Council makes revisions and 3 years later a lay person hears about it :)
as I stated previous, that usually isn't the pastor's fault

CF was using the Nicene Creed a few years ago, then a new owner at the time went to a more generic statement of faith. The present owner has gone back to the Nicene Creed yes. It caused some grumbling amongst the fundamental set but I guess they are living with it as I hear no fire alarms!

Yes Jesus spent time in 'Sheol'. He paid every debt we would ever owe in the most basic and deepest way.

But He ascended! He is risen!

I'm curious tho. If you werent asking questions, why did you post this thread? You do know that as a non member of this forum you may not teach, yes?

sorry, I didn't know that. I should have looked more into the rules...is there a forum where I'm allowed to ask questions and give my opinion?
I did n't think my reply was teaching, but asserting and opinion. Maybe you should call your superintendent and see how he feels about my stance on this subject.

my question was truly inquisitive of the AOG's stance on this, I explained that. I really have a friend who is an ordained senior pastor in Ohio, I really had that conversation with him. No deception involved, if you reject my reply to your assertion, I'm assuming you can delete it, feel free to do so. If you are unable to do that, I will, if you wish. (EDIT: I edited the post, out of respect for my brothers and sisters)

do you, by any chance, know anyone from the AGTS? :D
