I feel sick. Not because a black man was voted in despite his race. But because he was voted in because of his race. And worse than that, because of all the people I see worshiping him. We've had non-stop news reports for weeks now about so many Canadians who have done whatever it takes to make sure they're at the inauguration. He is like a god to these people. And he's not even our president!

Well it's official. He was just sworn in. Had some trouble getting through his oath. But it's done.
Gotta love the prayer for gays, lesbians, bi's & transsexuals from
the "Rev." too.

All we didn't see were the palm branches & the donkey tied to
to the railing for his exit.

I don't have a problem praying for anyone, depending on what the petition is. Those furthest from understanding the Truth need the most prayers. :)

That said, I didn't listen to the prayer and doubt I will. I'm busy packing to leave the country.....no kidding. ^_^ Of course, that has nothing to do with the new White House. ;)

For more than 200 years, the United States was a government of the whites, by the whites, for the whites. Are they really willing to give that up in the name of "change"?

It would depend on the change. IMO, this election was all about race, and values and issues (the really significant things) were ignored. People say they want change so they vote for a black guy, no matter what he stands for as if the color of someones skin is an indication of a specific change. It's really a sad day.

I agree with Des. The worship of a man is literally disgusting. It is just as disgusting that he doesn't discourage it.

Um... well... mixed feelings to be entirely honest...
Just as I've argued that there were good things about the Bush era as well as bad things, I'll also continue to argue that both bad and good will come out of the Obama era.

Yes, I'm one of those weird political maverick freaks.

*Sure, there's a lot to be excited about. The making of racial history and possibly (hopefully) the racial reconciliation that will come forth. Regarding things around civil rights and the economy, I'm hoping for the best. He does seem comitted to doing whatever works in order to improve the lives of people here. But even still, he's fallible and can only do so much, thus...

*I second all of the concerns people have here about people treating him as the Messiah. He certainly is not, and I think a lot of people - including many Christians - have really crossed the idolatry line here. I personally do not believe that he will end up being the Antichrist or anything that drastic/dire - but I do think that a lot of people have set themselves up for failure by placing too much hope in him as a leader. Government can be a source for good, but it could never fix everything. Many of the deep problems America has won't get fixed, people will become disappointed. Every administration has evil in it...

*So far (there may be more to come), the main evil that seems at hand here is FOCA and the codification of Roe V Wade into law. Obviously, my position on abortion and Obama's are pretty much opposites. I'm afraid that we'll get FOCA, which will cause many faith based hospitals to shut down, which will cause a genuine healthcare crisis amidst the other problems we have, which will become the excuse the government needs to universalize healthcare, making it not just for everyone (which I support) but also secular and baby-killing in nature (which I do not support).

And yet, I keep both my optimism and skepticism at bay... until decisions are made and we see the direct results of those decisions, I won't be so adamant about inserting my view(s). Though, I must say, many of his nominations so far have been people I would rather not see in those positions (such as Clinton, Geithner, etc).

But I do pray for him, his health, his administration, our country, etc.
Like I said...
Paxi has mixed emotions today.

That's true. Jesus Himself said in Mark 2:17 that it is the sick who need the doctor. We need to spend more time praying for sinners to come to Christ and shining our light for them instead of hating them. We should love the sinner and hate the sin. That's why Jesus shed His blood on the cross.

That disgust never showed during the days of Bush worship. Remember those sig images of him praying with Lincoln and Washington laying hands on him?

No, I don't think I was around then to remember it, at least, it didn't show up in the forum I was confined to. But how is that blasphemy? Blasphemy and man worship would include things like the continual comparison of Obama to Christ, the implying that he is a savior. Two men praying over another is hardly blasphemy.

Having a picture of someone praying in your siggy is a lot different than saying Obama is the Messiah.

Course, it always disgusted me when people fawned over Bush like he was the kingdom come, too.

No one is perfect.

Right now, I just keep listening to Reagan's inaugural speech that he made 28 years ago. Seems like his speech is still as pertinent today as it was 28 years ago and I hope someone plays it for Obama.

Washington and Lincoln are, y'know dead. That's the sort of stuff the Reformed really frown upon.

But IOKIYAR.

I don't know what IOKIYAR means, but I think that what Reformed frown on is praying to dead people.

And I don't know what that has to do with me, anyway, since I wasn't reformed at the time, nor did I see the signatures. Had I seen them and thought they were blasphemous, I'm sure I'd have been disgusted with it, also.

PLEASED that we have yet another example of a peaceful, lawful exchange of power in the most powerful nation on earth...

DISCUSTED that our nation is still so racist that the primary thing the press seems to notice is the color of the man's skin. How Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King must be rolling over in his grave, so very sad that his dream is still so distant, so unrealized.

WONDERING how this man is going to dismantal his own created "Messiah" expectations that the press has so bought into. His speech seemed to try.

I pray for God's richest blessings to him....

Admittedly...I was quite dispondent when Obama got elected.

Actually...I was very surprised by the way I felt so deeply about it...I dunno...it's hard to explain.

BUT:
Php 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
Php 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

:amen:

God is in control...and this is just another day...:)

And I will certainly be keeping the Pres and all our leadership in prayer...

What a wonderful post! We tend to get so wrapped up in worldly concerns and efforts that it seems easy to forget that God IS in control! And we are told to pray for our leaders - not just the ones we like or dislike but all leaders.

Cautiously optimistic.

I think it's amazing that we have a President with black background. I know a woman whose father was the first black fire chief in her area, and he was not allowed to go into the white neighborhood to put out fires. Within her lifetime, our culture has changed enough that a mixed-race President (or a female President) is an option to the majority of voters in the country. I may be tired of the harping on his race, but it IS a big deal -- just as the first woman President, or the first non-Christian President will be a big deal.

I am nervous about some of his more leftist ideas... but I also am confident in our system of government to contain the excesses and glean the best from them. My husband is sure the country will be socialist tomorrow with President Obama, but I am more confident than he that we'll find some balance for the economy.
