A simple question- today (Jan 20th 2009) - Inauguration of Barack Obama

How do you folk here feel about this historic event?

I know your opinions likely will differ from mine, that is OK. I am not here to cause trouble, but seriously only wish to know how you feel on this day!

I like him as a person, and I have a great deal of confidence in his ability and general competence. I think he will do an outstanding job so far as that goes. I have a severe disagreement with him on philosophy of government, but I've felt that way about every president since Reagan. And I think it's great that race won't keep someone out of the White House anymore. That's a historic barrier that's been demolished. Overall, I feel pretty good about today. :)

For more than 200 years, the United States was a government of the whites, by the whites, for the whites. Are they really willing to give that up in the name of "change"?

A good point!

I pray for President Obama and that he won't be assassinated!

:prayer:

I was thinking the same thing man.

Well if you're like me, whiter than sour cream, then most anything relating to black history and civil rights stuff is like "their" history, and ignored...sure wasn't anything taught in our school. I grew up in a "Sundown Town" in southern Missouri; I never knew any blacks until I went into the Marine Corps, none could live in our town...I was explaining to my 8 year old (he asked about MLK picture on the Fox site yesterday) about Jim Crow laws, "Colored Only" water fountains, sitting in the back of the bus 'cause of color, Civil Rights movement, and he didn't want to believe me 'cause it sounded so ridiculous to him...

Well I went through the school systems in 80's-90's so it wasn't totaly ignored but like everything else dealing with history they just rushed through it for most part.

Admittedly...I was quite dispondent when Obama got elected.

Actually...I was very surprised by the way I felt so deeply about it...I dunno...it's hard to explain.

BUT:
Php 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
Php 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

:amen:

God is in control...and this is just another day...:)

And I will certainly be keeping the Pres and all our leadership in prayer...

I just found out that here in my city, yesterday, they had a parade downtown where Obama supporters stood along the sides of the street and waved palm leaves and they had a donkey ride in with a cardboard cut out of Obama riding on it!!!! That is blasphemy! Obama is NOT Christ!

I am soooooo sad and sickened by the worship of this man! And the worst part is, it seems like everywhere I turn, people just assume I voted for him and I should be happy! Today, when I dropped off my daughter at school after having come from the dentist, her class was watching the inauguration and her teacher said to me, "I just have to watch this! It's just so exciting, isn't it?" Like she expects me to be happy about it.

Well, I'm sorry...I am NOT happy today. I am grieving today and saddened that my beloved country is being destroyed from within.

As you can see, I am really dealing with some very raw emotions and borderline hatred and it is not like me to hold grudges. I am really praying for God to heal my heart about the direction our country is heading. I am sorry to sound so angry.

I feel sick. Not because a black man was voted in despite his race. But because he was voted in because of his race. And worse than that, because of all the people I see worshiping him. We've had non-stop news reports for weeks now about so many Canadians who have done whatever it takes to make sure they're at the inauguration. He is like a god to these people. And he's not even our president!

Well it's official. He was just sworn in. Had some trouble getting through his oath. But it's done.

I am concerned for our nation, committed to prayer for my nation and it's leaders, and at peace knowing God is in control.

As to the day itself? I have never been very interested in the event and can not wait until it's over so the media will drop it.

As to obama's elction? read the Scriptures referenced in my signature.
