  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I guess that makes sense.

It is helpful for our side that Dad even posts, of course. We should be thanking him for making himself, and creationism, look so foolish.

I wonder what would happen, though, if the next time Dad made a thread, nobody replied to him?

I say we test this. Who is in favor of never replying to the next thread Dad makes?

I say AYE

You see, I already warned you guys at the beginning of this thread
But you didn't listen

Remember though that there are many lurkers here on these forums. Though dad is set in his ways, some of the lurkers may be undecided. In dad's mind we will never prove him wrong yet we may be able to sway the undecided away from the dark side with our rebuttals.

Indeed -- while it's easy, in fact inevitable, to get discouraged while fighting the fundie madness, it's important to keep faith that what we're having a good effect -- even if we never see the results right off.

That's why we do what we do without empty promises of miraculous gratification.

There us something that makes the really far out marginal people go to the religion camp, here. Dont see any of the really extreme, confused people talking science. Why is that?
Because we walk by faith, and not by sight?

Skip the metaphors, say it in plain English and maybe I will know what you mean.

You use the word "we" a lot in ways that perhaps make sense to you. In this case are you identifying with other marginal people?

I'll tell you what I told Bear --- when I use the words "we" or "us" --- I'm usually talking about that subset of the human race that would agree.

9 times out of 10, you're talking about a subset of 1.
You tell me.

I'm under the impression your fraction has been inverted for the sake of heckling --- seeing as how I'm on record as stating that I actually agree with 90 - 95% of your [plural] conclusions.

Oh ok I thought it was the "Imperial we" . Nah, not really. Still, others also have subsets who agree on various things, but dont use the first person plural. It has sort of a pretentious sound. You know? We feel you lose more than you gain by the use of that construction. Yes, we do.

Some reason that you dont say in plain words what "walk by faith and not by sight" means? It doesnt sound as if it means anything. So what does it mean?

I have a spiritual realm. Its in my head. In it, I created the universe. you have no right to claim that i cant because you cant know anything about this spiritual realm. hows that logic?
Not bad --- if you use it to compete against the Kingdom of Heaven --- we'll even name it for you: Diabolical Mimicry or Diabolical Plagiarism.

I guess the Sumerians could say the same thing about the Bible!

Who's going to agree with you on this one, AV?
When Mohammad claimed that he was the third prophet in line of God's plan of redemption --- it didn't work.

  1. Mohammad claimed that Moses took the infidels and turned them into Jews.
  2. Then Jesus took the Jews and turned them into Christians.
  3. Then he was to take the Christians and turn them into Muslims.
But when he sat back and expected the Christians to flock to him to present themselves for "Muslimhood" --- to his surprise --- they accused him of being a false prophet.

You see --- they knew their Bibles --- and they knew that there would be no more such prophets after John the Baptist --- (whom Jesus refers to as the last of the [OT] prophets); and they also knew that there would be no more prophecies after the completion of the Scriptures - (1 Corinthians 13:8).

This is how I pwn Mormonism as well --- knowing that there were no --- and I repeat --- no more prophets after AD96.

Thus Mohammad's and Joseph Smith's attempts at Diabolical Mimicry don't work on those who know their Bibles.

Not all of them, AV -- just the ones you refuse to count.

Besides, over the years, Mohammed found about a billion people who did believe him -- and the numbers keep growing.

Some day soon, I may find myself debating against Muslim blather on these boards.

Except, AV, they didn't have their Oh-so-sacred KJVs to guide them, so who knows what they thought?

This is how I pwn Mormonism as well --- knowing that there were no --- and I repeat --- no more prophets after AD96.

If only you were using an uncorrupted Bible to do so, you might actually be able to "pwn" your way out of a paper bag.

Thus Mohammad's and Joseph Smith's attempts at Diabolical Mimicry don't work on those who know their Bibles.

Even their wrong Bibles?
