As a former bible study leader, I can't emphasize enough how I am frustrated with the prevalence of Bible study "guides" or "schedules" such as Reading the Bible in 365 days! Although the books don't necessarily have to be read in order, each book is meant to be read from beginning to end--how are you supposed to keep track of the narrative or understand the context if you skip around?!? One day you read one passage in Esther or Phillipians, and four weeks or four months later after perusing Deutronomy and Revelations you come back to where you left off? The makers of these books ought to be sued for their scatter-brained approach towards Scripture, and I certainly hope that all of you bible study leaders and teachers out there don't recommend them!

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In my faith we are encouraged to read the Bible daily. This happens in two ways. Firstly, our own private, personal reading of the entire Bible in sequence reading a few chapters or pages a day. In this way the Bible can be completed in around a year. Secondly, there is the weekly Bible reading which considers a section of the Bible each week for which there is a talk at our meetings based on highlights from that section and then it is opened up to the audience to share their own highlights from what they have read within that section. Then there is an assigned reading of a part of Bible section under consideration. The Bible is the most essential book a Christian can have. To flit around from one area to another does not help a person new to it to be able to understand it. So a measured approach in personal Bible reading like as in my faith may be one way a Christian may get the most out of the Bible and what it has to say.

Do you as a Johovah Witness consider yourself to be a little Christ? W/O full knowledge of God and who He is the people will die of malnutrition.
Sometimes something as small as the letter A from one part of the bible can leaven the whole lump.
That's why I always used only the concordence and the bible for the first 10 yrs of study.

Eve, I think you misunderstood the direction of the thread. My post only showed what my faith encourages it's members. It doesn't make us "little Christs" or necessarily better than anyone else. Some people move around the Bible thinking that they understand it, yet they don't. Why? Because within personal Bible reading comes meditation. Why was this written, who was it written to and how does it affect me, my relationship with God, His will and purpose and my relationship with fellow Christians. Does it affect my conduct, how I serve God, how may it show obedience to God and His Son, Jesus? ChristianCritic was saying there is far more to reading the Bible than just reading it or skimming it. I agree completely and showed how my faith understands just how good Bible study habits are important for spiritual growth.
