  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dear LLOJ,

An interesting point. The Copts in Egypt use an Arabic version of the Bible. Here in the UK we use the NKJV.

peace,

Anglian
Greetings Anglian. The NKJV and NASB appear to be a favorite of more westernized Christians but even those translations are rather "lacking" in relation to the major Greek and Hebrew texts.

When translating the Jewish/Hebrew book of Revelation, I came across so many variances between the 3 major greek texts, it was like putting a jigsaw puzzle together.

I plan on putting up my translation of it on the Christian scriptures board as soon as I "refine" it. It will be word-for-word exactly how it is in the Greek. Thoughts?

Revelation 1:1 An-un-covering of Jesus Christ which gives to him, the God, to show to His bond-servants which-things is binding to be becoming in swiftness. And He signifies commissioning thru the messenger of Him to the bondservants of Him, John.

Do you speak / read / understand Koine? That would be my first question. Second questions would be - how long have you understood the language and how did you learn?
Greetings Tonks? Do RCs know and speak the Koine/Transliterated greek? I do study it and use online resources for my studies and when I did my translation of the highly symbolic Jewish/Hebrew book of Revelation, I was carefull to use each and every word shown in the Greek text word for word and also refer to the Hebrew OT/OC wording of certain words used in the NT/NC.

Before you or your Denomination attempt to discredit me concerning my knowledge of greek or hebrew, first ask yourself and your own Denomination the same question. Peace.

This has nothing to do with me or the Catholic Church. If someone presents a translation those are standard questions to be asked. Say, for example, you went to a publisher. They'd ask the same things.

Don't shoot the messenger. If you're doing a translation the methods and knowledge should be easily defensible.

Which is why I asked. This is about your translation...not Jerome's or Tyndale's...
Why should I defend myself to YOU!?

I'm asking you to defend your translation. That's all. Once you post it I'm sure that folks will have questions.
Nope, as you are singling me out and for another, I am under no obligation to defend myself to you or any others concerning how I translate the Bible.
So I would ask that you refrain from bringing it up again or look at what I have on this thread and ask me questions about it there. Thanks and peace........

I've always enjoyed LLOJ's Bible quotes. Jokingly (and not at all insultingly) I refer to it as "the Yoda Revised Version" because the sense of it one can undersand, but backwards iusually it reads! :)
An atheist told me the same thing one time :D

"Slimy?! mudhole?! My home this is!"

Actually, you brought it up which is why I asked. If you can't defend your translation it probably isn't terribly good.

At any rate, before you start hauling off about Catholicism again I suggest you check my icon.

Guess that is what happens with a "pick and choose" translation.

Well, friends, I was asked what my beef was with the Nicene Creed.

I stated it.

I was accused of every time I say I believe something, that is my creed.

SO be it.

Tonks, I guess you really wasn't interested in links I supplied and the reasons behind it.

Since I'm obviously wrong in everything I posted, to insure I don't "taint" anything, I shall delete all my posts in a very short time.

I'm sorry that I have an opinion.

God Bless

Till all are one.
