  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Feminists around the world have reacted with horror to a new line of lingerie that comes equipped with a GPS tracking system.

The 'find me if you can' range of underwear has been described as a modern-day, high-tech chastity belt.

'It is outrageous to think that men can buy this, programme it and give it to their partners and then monitor them,' said Claudia Burghart, leader of a Berlin feminist group.

'It is nothing more than a chastity belt for insecure men.'
Lingerie maker Lucia Lorio of Brazil says her design targets the 'modern, techno-savvy woman'.

The lingerie combination set consists of lace bodice, bikini bottom and faux pearl collar, with the GPS device nestled in the see-through part of the bodice next to the waist.

'This collection... is a wink to women and a challenge to men because, even if she gives him the password to her GPS, she can always turn it off,' Lorio said.

'It's not a modern chastity belt. Some men think they can keep tabs on their girlfriends with it, but they're wrong,' she added.

Unconcerned with the controversy her collection has raised, Lorio is also dismissive of the global financial crisis and its adverse impact on luxury items sales.

The GPS lingerie sells from a cool £500, complete with a standard Global Positioning System, to £700 with a more advanced model.

'Some women are now interested in buying it for protection,' she said, programming it for partners themselves so they are safe on a night out alone.

'In London, New York, Rio de Janiero - wherever there is danger, the underwear may prove to be a lifesaver,' she added.

But feminists in her homeland have called her a modern-day slaver and urged women to boycott the GPS underwear.

I done a quick search on google and found this site: http://forgetmenotpanties.com/

Is it simply prudent to know where your wife or daughter is (or son or husband for that matter!), or is this going to far?

Would you where such a device, or request that your partner/children where these?

Unless it is made so it can not be taken off, which there is nothing in the article to indicate, it is usless either for boyfriend(or other) tracking or safety.

It is only good for the find me games, or locating someone at a swingers convention.

So I think it is evil, but for an entirely different reason. It will make its sales based on conspicous consumption. For most it exists only to show how much they can spend.

I really don't see the outrage. Buy it if you want it, don't buy it if you don't. Really, calling the designer a "slaver"?? How can you force a woman to wear those in the first place?

News article:
The model is tanned and slim, and the underwear she displays on a Web site called forgetmenotpanties.com looks like any other pair of regular bikini briefs.

A closer look, however, reveals a little flower on the right hip emitting radio-like beams in concentric yellow circles. The ad copy underneath tells you that inside the flower is a microscopic Global Positioning System transmitter that beams its location to network satellites, enabling jealous boyfriends, husbands and worried fathers to track the location and monitor the vital signs of whoever is wearing the panties from their computers or cell phones.

The ad copy also says that “satisfied customers” testify to how good the new panties are. One man named David claims that he can quickly find and retrieve his teenage daughter when her heart rate indicates she might be having more of an amorous experience than is good for her. Another, Tim, says he escaped a bad marriage after discovering that his wife was cheating on him; he tracked her for several weeks going to a hotel near her office with a coworker.

Supposedly invented by a Japanese company called the Panchira Corp., the new panty technology was trumpeted by at least 430 bloggers on their sites. Newspaper and magazines, including Rolling Stone, ran articles about it. And throughout the summer, the Panchira company received upward of 1,000 orders, more than a hundred offers from distributors to handle the product, even feelers from "The Tyra Banks Show" and "American Idol."

The whole thing was a hoax. [one three years old]

Panchira, a Japanese slang term for “panty peeker,” is fictitious. And the track-her-down panty technology exists only in the minds of two artist/pranksters in New York calling themselves the Panty Raiders--Leba Haber Rubinoff, 28, a filmmaker, and Katie Marsh, 28, a graphic designer

I'm assuming it's a joke. GPS is a passive system, in that communication between a GPS satellite and a GPS device is one way. The device listens for satellite data and calculates the location based off of the data it receives. It does not send anything back to the satellite.

In order to be tracked via GPS, you need some sort of mechanism through which to send data back or store the data for future retrieval. There's nothing I'm aware of that can do so and be small enough to be comfortably and unobtrusively worn inside of underwear (and for that matter, your skin, for all of you who are worried about RFID). There'd be a big bulge in your crotch.
