Another shot thread

Grace is suppose to get her 2 mnth shots in a week & 1/2 & I'm nervous as all get out. I'm wondering if they can spread them out. It makes me cringe knowing she has to get 5 at one time.

You especially want to be cautious, if there is any family history of autism, Asperger's Syndrome, or Engineers or Mathematicians (no kidding) in her family lines.

Of course you can ask for them to be spread out. A friend of mine has her DD given 1 vaccine every 2 weeks. Some shots come in combinations so while it's 1 shot, several vaccines are in it.

Then it becomes a choice, do you want your child to have the vaccine separate [when possible] and if so, that's more chemicals over all.

I decided in the end only to split combination shots if one or more in the combination I didn't want him having period.

Really, you can choose any vaccine schedule you wish. Although they might make you sign paper work if you don't follow the CDCs plan.

I'm not sure about the shots being linked to Autism, that might just be a consideration in America cause know there is a difference in how the vaccines are made. There's a different component called thimerosal which is a mercury based preservative in them that are not in Australian vaccines. Perhaps you can ask for a different type of vaccine that doesn't have this component. Even if you can't I would warn against considering not getting your child vaccinated at all against deadly diseases like some are now opting for an unproven fear of a maybe.

I see vaccine shots like a band-aid. Pull it off quick. Stretching it out over weeks just means she'll have multiple days of feeling off, tired and sore rather than just one. Your attempt to be nice might in fact turn out to be a little mean and based upon your own fears and not what will actually effect her. Besides out of the 2 month vaccines there is only one they really feel and they usually do that one last, my daughter slept through the rest.

Many children suffering with Autism have a lyme induced Autism and do not even realize it and the vaccines have nothing to do with the onset of Autism. I was unaware of how prevalent this was until I met a woman whose daughter has Autism that came about due to having lyme disease (through her mother who contracted it from a tick bite).

1 out of 150 children are diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many of these children have also been diagnosed with Lyme Disease/borrelia related complex, but most remain undiagnosed. It is estimated that up to 90% of children with autism may be also infected with Lyme Disease/Borrelia however, since testing is difficult, current research shows that 20-30% of these children harbor this bacteria. This number would represent over 150,000 children in the United States alone.

I don't oppose vaccination, but, like any drug, we must weigh any dire side effects that have been consistently observed. Families with a history of Asperger's Syndrome (a mild form of autism that has only recently been diagnosed), have seen the highest incidences of full-blown autism, which is on the rise. It is quite probable that this is the [thimerosal] vulnerability factor that everyone is looking for.

Some of them (in America) have clearly been developed in an unethical fashion, as well. Details here.

Apart from those considerations, I am all for vaccinations.

Also I thought you might want to check out research that is suggests that there is not connection with aspergers and autism and that they are completely different syndromes, not different variants of the same syndrome.

What it shows us is the parts of the brain that are abnormal in autism and Asperger’s which relate to gait function and movement control are different. And now what we’re showing is there’s empirical evidence to show that the parts of the brain that control neuro-motor function are different in the two disorders which supports the idea that clinically they’re separate.

While this may be true, the increased incidence of Kanner's autism is showing up in Aspie family lines. A brain-injured Aspie WOULD HAVE a different MRI than one that doesn't have brain injury.

Back to the original question... they are done together for a reason. When your body develops antibodies it goes full force on whatever it is fighting. So if you give it three different vaccines at the same time, it will fight all equally and develop more equal and lasting immunity. But if you do one at a time spread out over a period of time, then the subsequent shots will not be fought as hard.

How many actual needles will she need to receive?

The two month vaccination includes a whole bunch of diseases, but my son only received two needles...

llghoney - whether you choose to vaccinate or how you vaccinate is your choice. YOU are in control of your child not the government or a doctor etc. Sometimes the authorities make us think we are required to do something (like vaccinate) but that's not true. If you want your daughter to have her shots spread out you are perfectly within your rights to have it done that way.

Maggie had 3 quick shots and one night of not feeling good (tylenol did wonders!). I think it was harder on us than on her.

As far as autism, my dr. explained that they've been doing research to see if there is a link (they have a vested interest), and they have not found one. We felt that the complications from the diseases were worse than autism/asper.

You do what you feel is best. You are her mama and a great one at that.

Check out Dr. Sears' The Vaccine Book for an alternative vaccination schedule (seen here at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Vaccine-Book-...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224365178&sr=8-1. Dr. Sears is concerned about the amount of Aluminum in some vaccinations, so his schedule has the shots separated out according to the amounts. You'd be taking your little one in once a month, instead of every 2 months. He also looks at vaccinations from a different angle than most pro or con books do, so IMO it's probably one of the most balanced books out there on vaccinations.

I, personally, don't do most of the shots, because I don't feel they are necessary, or don't work the way they're "supposed" to, or I'm nervous about the possible side effects (especially since one of my kids nearly died from a reaction to his shots at 2 months old). However, each family has to make their own INFORMED choice on shots.

But to answer your Original question... YES, they can Absolutely space out the shots~ and evidence shows that it's healthier for the baby as well (baby's immune system doesn't go into shock with all the garbage in the shots to fight as well as the vax itself).

I would also recommend using something like Vaccination Detox made by Nature's Sunshine for after shots. It helps the body clear out the heavy metals from the shot.

You should check out Dr. Stephanie Cave's "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations." Some things your doctor may want to vaccinate your child for, your baby might not be at risk for contracting - like Hepatitis B. You can opt out of any vaccines you want to and delay any that you want to. Aside from the autism debate, vaccines can have side effects and if you're concerned about that, I would definitely go with your gut and delay your daughter's vaccines or spread them out.

For my son, we chose only to get a few vaccines that I felt he would be at risk for. I also spaced them out.

We did not do any vaccines after the vitamin k.

We have a history of autism spectrum in all males in the family and from the research I have been doing, it does not look promising with the celiac in the family either. Some of the vaccines are not reccommended for people who have history of "bowel disorders", some include risk of SIDs and or/seizure, stroke -- you name it.

We asked our pediatrician and he said really the only one that he was concerned for us to have was the flu, and that one DOES have the thimerosol in it (other than the DTAP)

While the nurse fought us and said we'd be cruel to split vaccines, the doctor said just the opposite and said to spread them if you chose to do them at 6 week or more intervals depending on the ones you get.


DTAP by the way, they are finding links to SIDs with, and a Japanese researcher found evidence that if children wait to 2 years to have it, nearly all of the side effects are eliminated. Japan has moved to have children vaccinated at that age for DTaP.

I just don't see the point if they are going to be immunized anyways, in prolonging the experience. I would want my child to be immunized in the most effective immunity producing way possible.
