  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's really scary to think about how the internet and media have affected voters.

Blogs don't meet the criteria for responsible journalism.

Talk radio hosts certainly don't come near to meeting the criteria for responsible journalism.

Even television stations slant the news.

When isolated gaffes from either party are repeated over and over on You Tube, it certainly skews the impression we get of the candidates.

I don't believe that voters should be comprised of the only the elite, or only property owners, or only high school or college graduates.

But we need to do something to get people to hear facts.

I propose that every voter on his way to the polls has to go to an auditorium first and listen to a filmed question-answer session, moderated by the League of Women Voters, from every major candidate for the Presidency. Perhaps 20 minutes--10 for each one.

Completely impartial, and restricted to facts. If a candidate's response doesn't meet that criterion, the League asks the question again and replaces it with a factual response.

At least then we will know that everyone entering a voting booth will have at least some minimal exposure to the actual positions of each candidate.

And a law needs to be passed giving every employee in the US paid time off to vote if he/she can't get to the polls unless he/she has time off.

Here's the rub I guess, the fact the folks don't think these other countries are a threat- look at Russia what they just did- and Iran vowed to wipe Israel off the map.

At least Hills said she blow em' to bits if they tried it... If these countries think we are weak, they will attack us, make no mistake about that and then another fact, the leaders of these crazy countries are all rooting for Bams.

Jesus promises us nations will rise against nations. To think their threats aren't serious, is a mistake.

We are headed for a third world war if Russia is not dealt with and the last person we need is Bams steering the ship.

and we can not be tolerant and allow communist thoughts and terrorist thoughts have any place in a presidential election! They want to kill us Shannon and Bams will allow them to pray at his convention??!!

Wow... Bene, reading through this thread and what you posted... it all makes a lot of sense to me and I've read other respectable newspaper stories indicating the same information.

Right now, our country is promising to give Poland missle weapons to help protect them since Russia is now attacking Georgia and I realize that there are politics involved and that Georgia and Russia have been at it for awhile... but Russia is one country that we should never underestimate.

We need our next president to be respected and be strong and not be afride to step up to the plate to keep this country of ours safer and help other countries who are being threatened by big bullies. Although, we also need to not become big bullies ourselves in this world.

What I've been reading in the newspapers has me praying a lot for the well being of this world and Lord have mercy if we have a man in the White House who is unexperienced and not willing to step up to the plate to keep our Country safe and protected.

One thing that has occurred to me is this... another conspiracy theory..

If Obama is elected, he will probably be assisinated because this country is not ready for him and there are hate groups who will see it done. He will be assisinated as Pres. Kennedy was.

That's impossible in politics. Everyone has an agenda.

Yes, everyone does have an agenda... so the true question is who will do the best job and I don't think Obama is the man to do the best job.

As far as who will McCain pick for a vice president running mate... wow, I don't know. He must be wise in who ever he chooses. I hope it is not that guy from St. Paul Minnesota. I don't think he will bring in the votes that Mc Cain needs.

I wouldn't use the word "probably", but it is definitely true Obama is at greater risk than most for assassination than most. The press is playing it down tremendously because there is some fear that they could put ideas in people's heads. The media is probably doing the right thing. You never know what is going to motivate some wacko.

But if you follow these things closely, it's pretty clear reading through the lines that this is a big concern. Obama received secret service protection very early relative to the norm (Which is a sign that he was considered to be in a lot of danger by those who professionally evaluate such things) and has had what is thought to be a record number of threats made against his life for a Presidential candidate. After what happen to John and Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., it's not something that can be treated lightly or as an unrealistic concern. We've just got to hope the security is good enough to protect him.

However, having said that, I don't think it's a reason for people to vote against him by any means. He's chosen to take this risk for the good of the country. And Joe Biden is more than qualified to step in should something tragic happen. But it would be an incredible national tragedy. The good news is that his security is probably very good or they'd never allow these mass rallies, they must have an excellent team of people in place to screen people and keep Obama safe.

No matter what, Obama's well being and safety will continue to be in my prayers. No one should have to sacrifice their life for the sake of being president or running for president imho.

God Bless

I'm that last person who will ever stick up for Hillary but she got screwed bad.

Or maybe it was because he won the majority of the popular vote and the majority of the pledged delegates (from primaries and caucuses). Democrats are big believers in the will of the people. Remember 2000? The party would have had to abandon it's own principles to elect Clinton based on the will of the superdelegates and overturn the will of the people.

Or it's becuase they were afraid of the reaction-- some news analist I can't remeber if it was CNN or Fox but they hit on it to. They were afriad of the publics reaction.

And with the display that Polsi put on, disallowing a vote on drilling offshore when 70% of the ppl asked for it- don't talk about the will of the ppl anymore.

and  Shanon, why doesn't this matter to you? radical Islamic groups that hate America and want us to be blown up has no place at either party's convention!

Where is tolerance for this coming from?

back during the 2nd world war you would be nuts to be tolerant of communist speakers being allowed to speak at a convention.

what is up?? Bams has associations with ppl who think it's okay or who actually want to blow us all up.

This is fact, not fiction. He was shipped to indonesia and lived there, was educated there (Muslim schooling) and was adopted by an Indonesian man and was a citizen of that country.

Point number 1:
During the second World War the commies were our allies, the fascist and the Nazi's were our enemies. We put on USO shows for Russian troops during the Second World War. (Really, a women of your age and educational background should know that)

Point number 2:

Hawaii was a State for over 24 months before Obama was born there, and had been a territory (like Guam is now) for decades before that. Either as a territory or a State Obama's passes muster as a person allowed to run for President under the restrictions laid down in the Constitution.

So its clear, Puerto Rico has Commonwealth status and people born in Puerto Rico are not considered full Citizens of the US.

Surprisingly, McCain's claim to as a person allowable to run for president is a bit more tenuous than Obama's. Born on a Military base in a foreign country his status as a "Natural Born Citizen" of the USA has never actually been decided. While no one has ever bought a Constitutional argument before the court as to whether people born on American bases overseas are allowed to be President, it is arguable that they don't pass muster by the Constitution.

Point Number 3:

Obama was never adopted by his mother's second husband who appears to have little if any influence in this life, he was not "shipped" to Indonesia, he moved there with his mother.

He later was "shipped" the that most exotic of foreign places: The US state of Hawaii, to live with is (Christian) Grandparents and to be educated in that hotbed of Muslim radical thinking the Oahu College Prep Academy (Also known as the Punahou School) which,as all Terror Warriors know is only a mile from that most Muslim of terror training camps: Pearl Harbor Navy Base.

And as we ALL know (especially Benny's old man) Pearl Harbor is in the land of Hawaii, which, as a result of Islamic magic, is in a constant state of flux between being a US state and a foreign country where no good American would ever find himself.

Point Number 4:

Obama lived in a Muslim country for much of his younger live but never actually studied Islam or attended any Islamic schools.

Point Number 5:

Obama has practiced one religion in his life: Christianity.

Point Number 6:

Obama's father was, in fact, part of the Kenyan Government which was, in fact pretty corrupt. All indications are that the corruption in the goverment frustrated Obama's father and this stress indirectly lead to his death.

Point Number 7:

If Obama's father was a Muslim (there is some dispute just how Muslim he was) he wasn't a very good one: He married an Infidel, abandon his child, which he never instructed on Islam and was, reportedly, a pretty serious drinker.

Point Number 8:

All of this is can be found easily using the Internet and a decent search engine (especially the fact that the USSR was our ally during the Second World War and that the US gave them several hundred million (1940's) dollars in food, ammo, supplies and fuel.

So just how long does Benny here get to float this stuff on this forum before someone reigns her in ?

So I take it some like Biden and others don't. ^_^.

Some think he will help Obamas chances and other not so much.

Not to get back to the topic at hand or anything like that. :)

Does everyone understand the reasoning of those who do not wish to see Roe vs Wade reversed?
