  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Luke 12

42The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

And where will all unbelievers by found?

So much for the unconditional OSAS position.

why, in the name of excruciatingly clear, pure honesty and transparency, would such a one still call theirself a Christian?

Pride? Self delusion? False teaching?

Who knows. The point is, Jesus is clear regarding what their fate will be.

It's no business of pagans.

Jesus spoke about people like you.

Matthew 18

17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Luke 10
16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

John 20
21Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 22And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

Paul wrote about legalisers:

'Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh. For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh.' Php 3:2-3 NIV

He also wrote about what is required of us as christians:

2 Timothy 2:12 "If we endure, we shall also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us".

If we deny those sent by Jesus, are we denying him?

Matthew 18

17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Luke 10
16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

this just hit me like a ton of bricks....when Jesus brerathed on them and they received the Holy Spirit......how that ties into God breathing life into Adam and then he became a living soul.....

I agree that it's powerful.

I believe this is the final step in the establishment of the priesthood.

Do you find these passages to support the establishment of a hierarchical church?

yes, it is powerful! Whoa!

....you lost me on yer 3rd sentence :swoon:

I believe that Jesus founded a church. That's part of the reason I am a convert to Catholicism.

I think these verses are understandable with this perspective, but hard to understand if we reject the hierarchy of the church.

I believe Christian unity is only possible with a single authority for interpreting the truth of scripture.

We have a single authority, the Holy Spirit, and any who are saved already have direct access to Him. Unfortunately, some are hard of hearing and some are completely deaf to His voice.

Most certainly. As long as you refuse to obey me, poster, you pile up more and more punishments for yourself. Running away to join rebels will do you no good at all.

Absolutely not. Jesus didn't come to establish a complicated hierarchal work of man. He said the Kingdom of God is within you. Jesus railed against the established hierarchy of the day, Judaism. Why would He replace that with an even more convoluted system full of traditions and rituals that make a mockery of the Truth?

It is men that love to have all that hoo-ha, pageantry, and institutional power around them, not God. God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in Truth, not in pageantry, traditions and rituals.

This is something I can agree with for a change, nobdysfool.

Thank you. My guess is that you're in the minority.
