I just don't understand why McCain doesn't want to take care of Veterans...

I know his argument is that giving the guys benefits just for being veterans doesn't inspire them to stay in the military longer, but so what? Dangling healthcare in front of a guy who just lost his leg fighting in a war for us isn't right. They should get their full benefits up front, just because they are veterans.

I read enough about Obama's Method of Operation to know he is slick. He told ppl bold faced he would have voted on the born alive act if the wording was different. Bold faced lied...

Because Obama would still have all the more votes. Since this is really a bipartisan thing.

My husband heard someone say there should be an option on the election ballot...

But PetersKeys, we really dont have a choice. IT totally stinks.
We either vote one of the parties or the other wins.

Unfortunately, this country for the most part, only 'sees' what is in their face. And so they think we have 2 options. Thats been ingrained into our thinking.

Not much we can do now.

UNLESS we have a revolution. lol.
The constitution says the people can revolt against their government and over throw it.

Iffin it is bad, we can redo it.

But aside from that option which will never occur, unless we have another civil war, we have to choose bad from bad. [and i am not up for a civil war]

So - i am going to vote for babies. At least if they live, they might be able to change our world.

How many good Bishops, or Popes or scientists, or doctors have we thrown away by now?

Countless of souls meant to cure cancer, or other health problems. So many who could have been Saints.

Here is the problem. McCain does not mind taking care of wounded veterans. What he cares about and what I care about is people who join the military who expect the government and American public to support them for the rest of their lives.

I served two years in the Army in peace time 1970s and now I hold this sign saying I am a homeless veteran.

Big deal, get a job. This country needs a strong military veteran to say enouph is enouph. Retire from the military and you get your retirement just like anyone else. Be disabled or wounded in the military- you are entitled for care. But just because you spent a couple years in uniform don't think that just because you need a set of dentures or get cancer when you are in you 60's- you get a free ride.

I haven't seen McCain say anything like that. Instead he says he just doesn't want to give the military active any reason to become inactive any sooner. Considering that any retired military can be reactivated against their will up until they are old and less useful I think they do still have an obligation to provide some support for them. The example you give is a huge extreme where someone served 2 years in peacetime - that isn't a veteran at all and really not relevant to the discussion.

I think Sen. McCain did a good job of allowing the man to speak and articulate his grievances. McCain also did a good job of answering him.
I believe that YES Veterans should be given high priority and complete and full benefits, but McCain did exactly as he is supposed to do as a politician. He negotiated and utilized the concept of quid pro quo.
I being a Veteran of the US Army, am for complete and full benefits for our soldiers in harms way, but I always get the gnawing feeling that those who don't fully support the American serviceman and Woman, sometimes use their needs and benefits to their own design. It seems that this time around, unlike Vietnam, the anti Military faction has learned to feign concern for the troops as a weapon to use against those that don't fit their political agenda. I also think that most soldiers and their families see through it.

War veteran, or just veterans in general ? Because having my father get shot to death in Vietnam after serving 15 years in the Army, I could really care less about some guy who served 2 to 4 years in the military during peacetime, used their GI Bill or other contract agreements unwisely, and now wants a new set of teeth from the American tax payer under the guise of Veteran. My mom went through more crap than that so-called veteran did.
