What is it with certain Christians treating every movement or idea they disagree with as a religion?

Because it puts them on equal footing. Until said Christian plays the "It's not a religion, but a relationship" card, which implies that Christianity must be treated separately and by different rules. Plus...

(those of you who know formal logic...I apologize. My heart is in this, but my knowledge is not. If someone wants to correct this, feel free to do so)

Proposition 1: Anything based on lies of the devil is satanic rebellion.

Proposition 2: All religions that are not Christianity are lies of the devil.

Conclusion 1: Therefore all non-Christian religions are satanic rebellion.

Proposition 1: My interpretation of scripture is correct in God's eyes.

Subproposition 1: Therefore, disagreeing with me is disagreeing with God.

Proposition 2: Disagreeing with God is satanic rebellion.

Conclusion 2: Therefore disagreeing with me is satanic rebellion.

and, to wrap up -

Conclusion 1: All non-Christian religions are satanic rebellion.

Conclusion 2: Disagreeing with me is satanic rebellion.

Overall conclusion: Disagreeing with me is promoting a non-Christian religion.

Implied conclusion: Disagreeing with me is promoting Satanism.

...and that makes it much easier to demonize people you don't agree with.

They weren't supposed to find out about the Gay Agenda, but then I accidentally left it lying around on the Amtrak to Dover. My bad.

But all jokes aside, I genuinely feel pity in my heart for some of the people in this thread. The constant "us-vs-The Enemy" groupthink must make for a truly miserable way to live.

FWIW, I like the idea that I´m not easily impressed by agendas (particularly when I don´t even know about what they are supposed to pursue) - and instead simply am interested in people to have a fulfilling life (whatever it is they find fulfilling).
But maybe I´m just fooling myself.

I personally have gay friends. My love for them doesn't depend on their sexual preference, I love them as people and as part of that love for them, I love them enough to tell them the truth.

That is no matter what your sin of choice is, it is still sin, all sin we have to repent of and leave at the foot of the cross. Your typical garden variety homosexuals don't like it that they can't keep their sexuality and be a christian too. Well the truth of the matter is that, none of us who come to Jesus can keep any of our sins. So don't worry, God doesn't just pick on gays, he picks on all sin, in fact He commands that we turn from it.

Could you imagine pedophiles lobby for pedophile rights on the basis that they were born that way? Ok...so what..it still doesn't make it right? Hang on to whatever sins you wish...but do you really want to stand before God one day and have Him say, "I never knew you?"

Real christians don't make excuses for sin, they repent and turn from them.

What if part of the sin is that they can't turn away from the sin?

After all, Bennet gambled until he was found out. Haggard couldn't turn away until after he got caught. Hinn still covets. The majority of Christians that I've met in my life work for material wealth and fail to love their neighbors properly.

If they repent, but can't be turned from their pursuits, do you think they can still be saved?

If not, God's not going to know a lot of the people that profess Christianity today.

Well the operative word here is "can't". If in fact a person "can't" then God is a liar and the Bible is as the best selling work of fiction of all time.

I'm not for an instant insinuating that this is an easy thing, nor is turning from any addiction, it is a long road and only accomplished by the grace of God. I believe the turning is an attitude of the heart.

Scripture says that the law is our schoolmaster. What it does, it does brilliantly and this to remove our excuses and deceptions and very brutally condemn us as guilty sinners. Once we have walked through that door of truth and acknowledge our sinfulness..once we recognize we are sick...we can then receive the cure...which is the blood of Jesus Christ that washes away our sins.

Temptation is not sin. Also, just because I "feel" something..ie..I feed attracted to the same sex...I feel like want to smoke crack....I feel....I feel...I feel....this culture assumes that if I feel it..I can do it...and who is God to tell me I'm wrong since I feel it.

Again, I in no way want to minimize the struggle that most of us go through in order to lay our sins down. However, scripture gives us great comfort that Jesus is our high priest...we have not resisted sin the point of bloodshed...and he lives to make intercession on behalf for us.

I have seen it so many times first hand...God does the most amazing things when we step into the light of truth.

Ok...so what..it still doesn't make it right?
I wouldn´t appeal to "right vs. wrong" - but insted I guess I´d appeal to some paradigms that I´d assume they´d share.
Hang on to whatever sins you wish...but do you really want to stand before God one day and have Him say, "I never knew you?"
Seeing that this allegedly ominscient/omnipotent entity didn´t succeed in making itself known to me I suspect that "I never knew you" would be the better (i.e more credible and honest) approach.

What makes you so sure that your religion is the "one true" religion, though, and that what is said in Revelations will actually come to pass?

So, in other words, Jesus doesn't care one bit about our feelings, just as long as we follow him? He'd rather that gays went through emotional hell than that they actually lived a happy life? Wow. And people wonder why I'm not a Christian...

Yet the remainder of your post says the exact opposite

The problem here is that homosexuality is not a sin by any literal reading of the bible. I am always amused at those demanding a literal interpretation of the bible be inflicted on everyone are the first to reject that same literal interpretation on this topic.

This is an all to common tactic among those who argue for the justification of racism. To better justify their personal prejudices a racist will try to dehumanize non-whites by associating them with sexually based criminals. Racists usually employ the fear of rape and the bizarre notion that any black man wants nothing more than to sexually assault white women.

Your attempt to associate an entire minority with those who sexually abuse children is the same thing. it is hateful and you should be ashamed of stooping so low as to try something like this

Well done. You need to post in the Gay Theology thread. Gay theology states that pederasty and owning a sex slave is a beautiful thing that Jesus was OK with. Seriously that's what it posits.

What if part of the sin is that they can't turn away from the sin?

Then they don't get positions as Pastors, Deacons and Elders.

After all, Bennet gambled until he was found out. Haggard couldn't turn away until after he got caught. Hinn still covets. The majority of Christians that I've met in my life work for material wealth and fail to love their neighbors properly.

Then let us put the ones that do the will of Christ in leadership positions in the "real" Churches.

If they repent, but can't be turned from their pursuits, do you think they can still be saved?

Have you ever read the Gospels? The Apostles ask this exact question.

If not, God's not going to know a lot of the people that profess Christianity today.

That is also in the Gospel.

Your guesses could get a passing grade in a Bible orthodoxy class.

Strawman. Cognitive dissonance tricks are so old school now.

Focus on what the Christian writings (the New Testament) say that Christians should do within the framework of the Christian Church.

Pagans are free to do what they wilteth.

And the atheists are free to believe that 0 x 0 = the seen and unseen universe. And others are free to laugh at them and or pity them, or, to convince them that they are . . . ( I don't want to get banned just yet) so never mind.

Free will is the basis of free thinking. But so many freethinkers oppose free will.

Make your choice and be ready for the comebacks about it.

You know, the advice in the Bible.

No, this isn't hate speech at all. In fact it is a logical point that says, if all groups used the same logic that homosexuals do to justify their lifestyle, then we don't have the right to say any behavior is wrong. Who are we to say that a pedophile is wrong to molest children if he insists that he was born that way, yet this is the logic that homosexuals use to justify their behavior.

Just because I disagree with your life style doesn't mean I hate homosexuals or that any christian does.I may disagree with a person's behavior, yet still love the person. Homosexuals are quick to label anyone who disagrees with their sexuality choices for whatever reason, a bigot or homophobe or hate speech. That is the same tired and worn out rhetorical banter homosexuals have been spouting off since the 80's.
