I'm not sure how to phrase this post......but here goes.
When people use key and recognizable biblical phrases (like I'm dusting my feet off and leaving this thread), what's the purpose of that do you think?

Do you think they feel more spiritual or they've made some sort of huge point about how much above you they are in their knowledge of God.........

Pretty much an open topic about using biblical phrases.......and examples of said phrases you've seen used here.

Personally, I find it really annoying.

I hear ya. You'll note that Jesus didn't say to stand up in the middle of town square and announce "I'M DUSTING MY FEET OFF AND LEAVING!" He simply said if they don't receive you, leave the town and shake the dust off your feet.

But I think a lot of people need the assurance from others, and so they make a spectacle of "shaking off their feet" to make themselves appear more spiritual/scriptural/holy than others.

To use the scriptures to prove the point or NOT to use the scriptures to prove the point. Such teaching is in radical contradiction to the letter as well as the spirit of the Holy Scriptures. Every Christians who are spiritually well educated know where they stand on such matters as the inspiration of the Scriptures, the deity of Jesus Christ, salvation through the blood of atonement, death and judgment, heaven and hell. The true battle line is elsewhere outside Jesus Christ, the Church and the Bible which are taught by man's doctrines.

Is it really any better to be sitting around talking about these others as if they are a bunch of fools...leaving the impression that you are somehow better, or even more righteous, than they by NOT doing these things?

Oh, come on, Siege. Charityagape raises a good point.

And anyhow, aren’t you doing the very thing you are accusing her of?

Ah, thank you, Jim. That was very sweet.

Mostly it is just a rationalization they use to justify what they are doing.
People make up games for themselves. They play the part of the rejected prophet because they feel it will condemn those who refuse to obey them. They are using these verses and many like them to manipulate others. They may even think they are hurting others by invoking these phrases.
These boards are sometimes like a case study in PHY 101. It is really amazing to see the roles being played out. It is like a script.
I have an ongoing thread called "games people play" that has dozens of such "cards" that people use in an attempt to manipulate and control others, or even hurt others.
I wish I could find it. There are a couple new cards I need to add.
Maybe it got deleted.

Shaking the dust off is the one I hear most, I'm trying to think of some others I've heard.
The one I hear the most is the "wisdom of men" phrase. They are implying that everything YOU say is human wisdom while everything they say is purely of God. Most of these phrases can be used by anyone. It is the poor mans debating trump card. The first one out of the gate to invoke "dust your feet" or "man's wisdom" can claim to be winner.
The funniiest one is the "do not judge me for judging you" card. They throw stone after stone at you and the instant you respond in kind, it is YOU who are the judge. I got hit by a "two wrongs do not make a right" today. It is ok for them to throw the book at you, but if you dare even suggest that maybe they should not throw those stones then your are in for a screaming fit about you judging THEM(???)
Go figure.
It is all mind games. Most of these games are played out, won, and lost in their own minds. Really funny.
