  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You asked how much do you think Wrights views influenced him to the point it is a political concern? Seeing as how even Obama
himself claimed Wright had great influence over him, I've provided you with ample eveidence-unless you think Obama was lying/wrong?
I asked you this, "Exactly how has Wright's antagonistic views manifest in Obama's political record or his long record of speeches?"

I know he said he was influenced by Wright, but he also meant that in his faith and outreach programs that have been spurred by that faith.

I am again asking how his influence on Obama manifests itself to the point of fear?

"I want something relevant to justify the fear, is that too much to ask?" ....second time that has been asked.
Messenger? I think you mean 'mentor'. You say 'throw him under the bus' like it's akin to stabbing him in the back, but the question remains-
why Obama continued to work with him and appoint him? He seemed to have no problem criticizing his grandmother, who raised him for a time.
No I meant messenger as Wright brought Obama to Christ. Just as someone who evangelizes is a messenger of Christ.

He appointed him to a honorary spiritual position as one of his over fifty countrywide spiritual advisors.
Considering Obama called for the resignation of Trent Lott for ONE comment at a birthday, party, I think holding himself to his own standard isn't too much to ask.
That actually might be a fair poin and something you could criticize him for.

As opposed to Wright who places his faith above his politics, right? Sorry, JoyJuice. 3 out of 4 people who heard those comments found them divisive. I don't think they're all conservative.
Far enough, another criticism of the Pastor.
Obama's poll numbers dropped after the Wright scandal hit. Were all of them conservatives, too?
Although the poll numbers are right back up after the speech, I don't think they can answer the same question I ask here.

You wanted evidence that Wright influneced Obama, and I provided it.If you want to keep moving the goalposts for proof of Wright's influence on Obama,
feel free...but if you think I'm going to review his entire career looking for legislation footnoted 'Inspired by my Spiritual Mentor, Jeremiah Wright', you're mistaken.
As for me, Obama claiming Wright had a great influence in him is enough for me to believe that Wright had a great influence in him.
Where?

I reposted the orginal question that I asked on March 20th. No goal posts have been moved at all. All you have done is stated that Obama has been influenced by him... I mean "duh" that is a no brainer.

Again I ask, "Exactly how has Wright's antagonistic views manifest in Obama's political record or his long record of speeches?"

And I've told you, I'm not going to dig through 20 years of Obama's work looking for legislation footnoted 'Inspired by Rev. Wright'. Between his 'typical white person' comment and his 'white mans greed has spoiled a world in need', it seems Obama has some funny ideas about white people. Whether or not this attitude was influenced by Rev. Wright is impossible to determine. Probably why you're asking me to, right?

Call Wright what you like, I'll choose the term that Obama chose, 'mentor'.

JoyJuice said:

I certainly wouldn't expect the media to call him on his double standard.

Where what?

Actually, the original question you posted was March 19th and reads as such-
JoyJuice said:
Obama has record as a Professor, he has on record a book, he has a state legislation record, he has federal legislaton record replete with crafted and sponsored legislation, and he has on record a myriad of speeches, how much do you think Wrights views influenced him to the point it is a political concern?
And I've shown you that people who knew them both claimed great influence, and Obama HIMSELF claimed great influence. I've answered your question with words from Obama himself, JoyJuice.
And you still claim it's not enough evidence? Now you want to know where in his writings, legislation and positions it can be seen? That's called moving goalpoasts.

It's disheartening to see how this false witness agenda continues even after it has been proven Wright's comments were dishonestly cited and stated. But, i guess in politics Christians principles of the most fundamental nature take a backseat to slamming others.

Exactly, just like Wright's insulting of black republicans because he disagrees with her. It's shame so many Christans feel the need to insult ecah other. That Green Day song, you know? :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Dont quote my post then pretend to agree with it. Then again, it only helps reinforce exposing the lack of ethics and integrity regarding Wright. I have no idea what black Republican Wright supposedly insulted and give the fact false claims have already been made about Wright it's a waste of time asking who he supposedly insulted. I may as well go read WND or Lifesite.

They are more free now than they have been in several generations. They are more free now than they will be if Obama gets his way the worst strongman in the region seizes power after we leave. They've had elections with higher turnouts than we have here. They are writing a constitution. We had to be pragmatic in the 1700s in order to form a nation, they do, too.

If someone doesn't think there's a scary parallel between the middle east right now and southeast asia 30 years ago, they need to read up on it.

It's not that whites are scared of obama breaking into a white system, it's that we simply can't believe that any rational person believes some of this tripe, let alone someone ostensibly smart enough to run the country.

For some reason, while there is a rational expectation that whites will be respectful when dealing with racial issues, there is no expectation that blacks will do the same. To the point that Obama can talk about a "typical white person" and it's not only accepted, but those who don't accept it are labeled haters and mudslingers.

When I typed this it wound up two pages back, so I'm tossing it in again. When I went to my page to fix my own time it was right, but it puts my posts in yesterday. weird.

As he came in from the cold and took off his coat, I went up to greet him. He responded warmly, and volunteered, "Hey, I'm sorry I haven't said more about Palestine right now, but we are in a tough primary race. I'm hoping when things calm down I can be more up front." He referred to my activism, including columns I was contributing to the The Chicago Tribune critical of Israeli and US policy, "Keep up the good work!"

If disappointing, given his historically close relations to Palestinian-Americans, Obama's about-face is not surprising. He is merely doing what he thinks is necessary to get elected and he will continue doing it as long as it keeps him in power.

It has already been proven Wright was not the original author of the chickens roosting line yet nothing is said about how peeps slammed him on misinformation. Frankly, that is enough for me to believe the anti obama agenda has little to do with facts.

So when Obama says he brings change, part of that means we as a nation will stop supporting Israel and start supporting the suicide bombers instead?
See, change comes when Trent Lott or Imus says something off-color.
Unity and lectures on race relations come when Wright does the same.

I think when Obama says he brings change, he's saying that the rest of us are going to have to bring paper currency to pay for his plans.

A reminder of what Obama has sworn to live and uphold in every aspect of his life. HWR: Obamination by Erik Rush , 02/21/07
Mr Erik Rush, a columnist, viewed the website of Senator Barack Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ,Trinity United Church of Christ
and viewed the Black Value System to which the church subscribes - to which ALL members must affix their signature in allegiance.
After Mr Rush's article appeared (21 Feb 07), Trinity United Church of Christ quickly changed the "About" page of their website (from this Trinity United Church of Christ
on 15 Mar 07 to this Trinity United Church of Christ
on 29 Mar 07) to NOT include the sworn dedication to upholding the Black Value System, hiding that strong and important cornerstone of the church, the pastor, and the members from the public.
Why? Is Trinity United Church of Christ ashamed of what they believe? Do they intend to keep their firm and practiced belief in The Black Value System a secret from the public and future members? Is that why The Black Value System was removed from their website? Because it is a radical, separatist, bigoted, exclusionary, and a wholly racist belief system?
08 Oct 07 | FoxNews: As Obama Talks Religion, Questions Surround His Controversial Pastor FOXNews.com - As Obama Talks Religion, Questions Surround His Controversial Pastor - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum
Barack Obama has put his religion back into the headlines, trumpeting the power and salvation of faith and asking a church audience in South Carolina to help him become “an instrument of God” and join him in creating “a Kingdom right here on Earth."
30 Apr 07 | NYT: A Candidate, His Minister and the Search for Faith http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/30/us/politics/30obama.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
(3 pages, log-in required)
“If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” Mr. Wright said with a shrug. “I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.” - Rev Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr, Pastor, Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago IL
Interesting to know Barack Obama will continue to receive regular personal and spiritual instruction and counseling from Pastor Wright during his campaign to be President, but, admits he will publicly distance himself from the man he admires, reveres, and is entranced by; in effect, deliberately hiding his relationship with the controversial and radical Pastor Wright from the public. Would "an instrument of God” committed to creating “a Kingdom right here on Earth" deny his brother? Obama will... to further his personal and political agenda. Should he win the Presidential race, how would Obama treat an ally of America? How would Obama treat an enemy of America? If he is willing to treat a cherished personal friend of at least thirty-five years in this abysmal way, publicly disavowing their relationship while maintaining it in secret, it boggles the imagination to wonder about the treatment of which he is capable of those that are not his personal friends (or friends of America).
Why? This is completely contrary to Obama's beliefs. Is Obama ashamed of his on-going relationship with a known racist radical? Evidently.
Barack Hussein Obama
