We believe in the resurrection of the body. The basis of this belief is the Bible. Jesus was physically resurrected. So will we be also.

A human being is a body together with a soul. It was always meant to be that way, but with sin came death, and death is the separation of the soul from the body. At the Resurrection, we will again be made whole, with glorified bodies.

I'm surprised you believe that a bodily resurrection is not believed by most Christians outside the Catholic/Orthodox faiths. At the Protestant Evangelical university I attended in one of the manditory theology classes the professor made it quite clear that the separation of the body from the soul is an unnatural state of being for the human person and it is only once the body and soul are rejoined in the resurrection that humans are made whole again after death.

In the Creed we state that we believe in the resurrection of the body and the life of the world to come.

Some of the early Gnostic heresies preached another gospel pertaining to a non-physical resurrection, but that is not what the Church has taught from the beginning, nor yet what the Fathers held.

From the beginning there have been those who have thought they knew better than the Apostles and had access to a special 'gnosis', and there are some modern liberal theologians who would query what has been believed at all times and in all places by everyone. The rest of us are content to receive what our forefathers received from their Fathers - in faith and with thanksgiving.

At the Last Judgement [The Lord's second coming] we will all obtain our mortal bodies back as Christ did.
Hence He is the first fruit...which He was the first fruit to rise with His body.
Now we receive a transfigured body [our souls] until the Resurrection.

The only protestants I've ever met who didn't believe in bodily resurrection where preterists.

As far as I know, all mainline protestant denominations, and most non-denominational protestants believe in bodily resurrection. (and I was a non-denom protestant for 30 years)

Bodily resurrection is one of the primary tenets of the Christian faith. It is taught through out the New Testament and it was stated in the Nicean creed as part of the necessary belief for Christians.

Jesus was called the first fruit.
Because He resurrected bodily and ate with the Apostles after he broke bread.

Yes, we will all rise again at the last judgement bodily.

Luke 14

Basically, the reason Paul spoke about the Resurrection AT that time, was because the body will rise again, and because the Pharisees were divided from the Saduccees on that matter.
Thus he aided by the Holy Spirit and was taken from the court.
And vindicated.

1 Corinthians 15 clearly teaches a resurrection of the body, and Revelation 21 clearly teaches that the end of time is consummated with realizing of the kingdom of God on earth, not in heaven.

Heaven is a weigh-station on the way to our final destination- back here.

It seems to be a growing belief (or lack of belief) among those who style themselves 'just christian' in those things always believed and taught in The Church. It's very sad, as time goes on, they reject more and more of what has been taught from the beginning of The Church.
(Just for clarity, when I use the term 'The Church' I mean the original, undivided Church and all of those who can trace their roots and prelates in a direct line of succession back to the undivided Church and the Apostles.)

I know of only a few Baptists who do not believe in a physical resurrection b/c of a verse in one of Paul's epistles referring to the new body as a spiritual one, 1Cor 15:44. It is misconstrued to assume a non physical resurrection. I was at one point taught that Catholics didn't believe in a physical resurrection, but like most things I heard about Catholics it wasn't true.

Physical resurrection is the biblical view.
The period after death when we are separated from our bodies is Purgatory, known among EO as "Stations".

I can't comment on Purgatory, but I assume by "stations" you are talking about a teaching referred to as "tollhouses". This is not to be taken literally, but is a way used to describe the testing of the soul by demons at death. It is not at all a dogma, and many completely reject the idea.

And anyway, that would happen before the general resurrection, so doesn't really have anything to do with the resurrection of the body.

Dear I.believe. When you ask about bodily resurrection, and you say in your message that we will be raised spiritualy, I do not see a difference. And when the talk is about the Resurrection of the body, does that mean at the last Judgment? I believe what Jesus said on the Cross to the repenting thief, " today you will be with me in Paradise." We shall have a body like our Lord had, after God had raised Him, and although it was a recognisable body, Jesus could walk through walls and closed doors. That is not a body as we have now, and I do not believe that we will have bodies like that again. Perhaps they should not be called spiritual, but according to what our Lord told the thief on the cross, we will be with Jesus after we leave our bodies behind, and not at the last Judgment. Or do we have a last judgment every time some of us die? Perhaps you, or someone else can clarify this for me, I. believe? I ask this humbly and greatly puzzled. I believe that when people die they go to either heaven, hell, or purgatory (then heaven).. and on the last day, our bodies will be raised to new life, as Christ's Body was. they will be glorified, spiritual bodies, not natural.. but still real.. we won't be pure spirits like the angels are.

Yes, it's true...and scripture does speak of the graves being opened, etc. But Emmy explained a few post back how these will be glorified bodies, which is the prevailing view.
