When we got home, we decided to garden after all--and ended up taking out a wisteria bush/vine that has been destroying our fence, and overwhelming an almond tree. This was amazingly difficult, and I suspect we haven't won--those roots are not dead.

My mother-in-law was a Master Gardener. Her yard was recognized as a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. One of the highlights of her gardening years was winning a 'best garden" contest sponsored by our local PBS station and the National "Victory Garden" show. The judge (and person who awarded the prize) was the host (at the time) of the show, Bob Thomson.

All that to say she was an adamant organic gardener - she never used "poisons" of any sort.

The reason I tell you this is because she took out her wisteria for the same reason - it was taking over everything around it as well as damaging the fence that helped support it. And yes, the roots kept sending up new shoots. She did some research as to how to get rid of the remaining stem/roots without using anything toxic and without damaging/removing the surrounding plants. Now this is going to sound strange - but her research found this solution - drive a copper nail into the stump. At the time I laughed - but it worked (not overnight of course, but it did work)

GOTCHA too

This is REPs the fun way!

Everyone, I need to tell you something.

Yesterday a topic came up which made me realize how much I've been hurting about something. Rep Daddy helped me work it through. Also, I am now patching up a relationship with someone because of it.

Yesterday, Rep Daddy was a pastor to me. And in fact, I found out that he is a pastor.

I believe that we need to give honor where honor is due. Also, I like to recognize the pastors among us.

Moreover, he took the time to counsel me, and made me feel he really cared about me--

From now on, I'm going to call him "Pastor RD."

Edie, thank you SO MUCH. We'll try this.

I loved the lovely blooms on the wisteria, but it was trashing our fence. And like your MIL, we don't like to use pesticides, either.

Thank you for that great advice!

Suzy, I'm sorry you're not feeling well!

I used to get terrible colds and earaches, too. Then I started to take garlic supplements. I haven't had a cold or flu since 1998.

Pastor RD was my pastor for many months as he helped me come out of the cult I was in. It was a long hard process but RD was there to counsel me and show me how to read and understand the scriptures. So I know how you are feeling. Isn't it wonderful to have a wise, kind-hearted Daddy when you need one? Of course, we know that the great Rep Daddy in the sky has blessed our Rep Daddy with love and understanding.

Dawn--this really touches me. Yes, I agree. Our Pastor RD is blessed with love and understanding--and a great deal of wisdom.

I'm beat. But what a great day!

I love wisteria! I've always wanted some wisteria around where I live. I've only seen some in the woods down by NYC when I commuted there for work.

Maybe we ought to talk a bit more about theology.^_^

Dawn that was an amazing process. God was so faithful.

LOL. Well, come to our yard this summer as we watch the cute little wisteria bushes push up out of the ground from the parent's roots....all over the place, undoubtedly...

EXCEPT, we are going to try the copper trick.

Yeah i have a bit of a cough, its not deep in the chest yet, but I suspect its on its way. My ear is what's killing me! I'm hopin' it doesn't keep me from church tomorrow. I hate when I miss, it makes me feel off all week.
