  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you think that homosexuality is a choice?

But you stated:

The point is, it is quite possible to be a homosexual without "expressing the act of homosexuality", and if one simply is homosexual without "expressing the act of homosexuality", how can that be immoral?

David.

It is embracing a lie. It is a sin in the mind of an individual. You cannot embrace a lie and influence people for the truth of Jesus Christ. It is hypocrisy, isn't it? A Christian should be very quick to drop the label of "homosexual" once he or she has met the healimg Saviour. He sets things aright. He is our overcomer.

To be a homosexual is to be likely to be attracted to people of the same gender as oneself. That's all it is. It's not a lie. It's not a sin the mind of an individual (as with heterosexuality, it can lead to lustful thoughts, but as far as I can tell there's nothing intrinsically sinful about the default state of attraction itself).

Neither is it, as far as I can tell, hypocritical to be a disciple of Christ, and to be homosexual. Certainly, I'm able to be a disciple of Christ and to be bisexual. The two don't come into conflict, any more than being a disciple of Christ and being heterosexual would conflict.

David.

According to God, you are wrong. It is a huge conflict and it renders a man a slave to his passions. It is opposed to Christ.

No, according to you I'm wrong. According to God, I'm his child and loved and forgiven for my sins, and day by day I'm learning to serve and follow and trust and obey Him. I'm not a slave to my passions. I'm a disciple of Christ, and not opposed to Him.

If you have repented for your homosexuality, then yes, you are forgiven and cleansed. Now walk in your justification and obey God in your moral ways. We cannot keep Jesus out of any area of our lives. Social, financial, familial relationships, recreation, work, and also sexuality---Jesus wants dominion over all.

As I've said, I'm bisexual, not homosexual.

And since I didn't choose or ask to be bisexual, nor did I do anything to become bisexual, there's nothing that I'm aware of to repent of.

However, any sins I commit, I bring before God and repent of. And I'm open to His leading and Lordship as I live out my life day by day.

Well, He's Lord of all I have and all I am and all I do.

Dear EnemyPartyII,
I'm still waiting for any sort of evidence that you are actually speaking for God
No the evidence is the Bible, it just happens that our belief is that it is the word of God. Therefore you dont accept the Bible is the word of God, but the evidence is still there even if you dont accept the claims about it; and the claims of course wont be accepted by atheists and people who have other gods.

I'm open to any evidence that
a. The Bible is ACTUALLY God's word
b. The most simplistic, literalistic understanding of the Bible, in its potentially inaccurately translated English format, accurately reflects God's meaning

*giggles*

OT, but could you send that to Fred Phelps? I'm pretty hacked off at him for the whole protesting-at-Heath-Ledger's-funeral thing...

David.
Yeah, me too.

Although I'm kinda miffed at Heath too for going and dying... now we have to put up with years of Diana/Steve Irwin-esq "oh if only Heath/Diana/Steve were here" flagelation

Feel free to use the graphic all you like though

Which leads to the question, how powerful is God if He were to allow us to inaccurately reflect His meaning? Would He allow it?

The bible tells me so...

2 Corinthians 2:17
You see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us.

1 Thessalonians 2:4
For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.

I think it means that your argument could be used to justify nearly anything, since it basically states that its 'in your blood' to do such.

I don't think I've ever stated that it's "in my blood" to do anything.

so... these passages are refering to you?

We only seem to have your word for that.

If you are trying to show that the Bible is God's word... its kind of hard to show the Bible is God's word by quoting the Bible.

A. The Bible doesn't even claim to be God's word, but even if it did,
B. Saying the Bible is God's word because the Bible says it is God's word is kind of circular... what would be the difference between that and any other text claiming to be God's word? Thats empirical, logical evidence by the way. We know what you believe, and what you think of your personal communication with the almighty. However, the rest of us are waiting for any sort of detectable evidence that any of what you say is in anyway true outside of your own head.

and, sweetly as possible, this is not an attack... this is a genuine attempt to try to understand what evidence you base your convictions on. Perhaps if you tried a little harder to EXPLAIN WHY you believe what you believe, you might actually win some people over to your way of thinking.

Short version: I'm not changing my mind about anything merely because you call me names. I will, however, change my mind if you present sufficient evidence for me to do so.

Evidence is based on taking God at His word by faith, applying it, and seeing that His promises are true. He is reliable and true.

I haven't called you a name yet. However I now you have called me some foul things and not apologized when you said you would.

You won't ever change your mind until you have been confronted with your lack of faith and you suddenly need it.

You are complicating the simplicity that God has given us.

It's not my job to convince you of anything. You've seen, and you do not believe. I've seen and I believe. All I do is pray for you to find your way.
