In the latest entry on my blog I ask why is Kent Hovind such a hate figure?

Hate?

I don't hate anyone based on his convictions, but it I do vehemetly disagree with him. And if he would post on these forums he could expect a pretty hefty discussion.

The problem with disagreeing a person like him though is that it's like disagreeing with a rock. It won't change anything (and not because he is right, but because he refuses to be wrong).

OK, here's the funny paragraph:

"Now everytime the name Kent Hovind is mentioned, evolutionists start contorting their faces. Sure he could have been easy on them but he chose to make a spectacle of them."

Yes, you read that correctly. This article thinks that Hovind made a spectacle out of us evolutionists.

So, speakout, can you cite one instance where Hovind made a spectacle out of evolutionists?

To start, he stole money from me (and you, if you live in the US...). But yeah, as others said, one doesn't 'hate' a criminal, particularly when the crimes are of such a impersonal nature. Pity him? Sure. Despise him for his crimes, sure. Hate is too strong.

As for his stance on Evo, he is just another liar among many. Perhaps the "evolutionist facial contortions" come from pity out of suspecting what Hovid's God really thinks of his lying in his Lord's name?

I wouldn't say hate, but there are a number of reasons I don't respect him:

intellectual dishonesty
making money off of tricking gullible people
he's a convicted criminal
he's arrogant
he's unappologetic about his crimes
etc.

I'm an atheist and I hate Hovind. I freely admit it. I hate anyone who willfully lies to children to make a living, and then lies to the government to avoid paying his taxes. Everybody else pays taxes, why shouldn't he?

When Hovind drops dead the world will be a better place.
I understand your sentiments but I try not to be too cruel to someone with such obvious mental problems.

As they say, the lights are on...but there's nobody at home.

I woud have loved him to debate a Hitchens or a Dawkins.

Dawkins I can understand but I don't see the connection with Hitchens.

Did you ever wonder why Hovind only did spoken debates where nobody can check or explain the flaws in his claims?

With all of Hovind's spare time at Club Fed do you think he will ever do a written debate now? No? I didn't think so.

You don't 'debate' with slideshows, cartoons, and one liners.

What original research would Hovind present? What predictions would he make? What position would he defend and how would he do it?

I too would have loved him to debate Dawkins. It would have demonstrated that Hovinds ideas really can't persuade based on evidence but instead rely on emotional appeal and song lyrics.
