  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Today when I discuss with a brother , I asked if he saw a kid was crossing the street and suddenly a bus was coming, should we run to save this kid even if maybe died?
he said: u shall pray. do not need to take real action, cuz yourself life is precious to God, too.

I was surprised, so i argued with him, then he asked:"if u r so kind hearted, why not donate all your money to the aids patients and the poor in Africa? why not go to the mental hospital to serve for everyone there?.......God does not need u to do those things. U just need to pray and save a person's soul, not his body......If u die for God, that is worthy. But if u die for a kid or a human, it is unworthy."

hi,

Just becuase you can't rebuttal someone don't let it get you down. While you cannot donate all your money to anything yet serving in the hospital is good thing to do... seeing a small child in the street about to die is diffrent, any mother or father would run to save them... why are strangers who care any diffrent? If it was his child he would or should.

Jesus said it was the greatest love possible to lay down your life for a friend, not just God, and it wasn't "unworthy".

Sometimes you have to forget the word games and just follow your heart, while you may not be able to do everything for everything, you do what you can.

Some people have given everything away and went to serve the poor and needy... people like Mother Teresa.
You do what you can do emotionally and physically.
Follow your heart, it is more true than many dis-arranged arguments like his.

The simple fact is IF IT WAS YOUR CHILD, YOU DON'T PRAY, YOU RUN! Your child isn't better than anyone elses ya know?
I've also never heard of God speak of anything as being unworthy of our sacrifices, Jesus never acted that way either.

Just look in the bible it's got the answers :)

Jam 2:14¶What [doth it] profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
Jam 2:15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
Jam 2:16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be [ye] warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what [doth it] profit?
Jam 2:17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Faith without works is dead!

We are to be like Jesus, and what was he like?

Rom 5:7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
Rom 5:8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Rom 5:9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Rom 5:10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Jesus died for humanity. So it is worth dying for them.
But with our Authoritative Power in Christ you could
of told the bus to stop in Jesus Name and it would stop
dead in it's tracks and the little kid would be ok.
God would sends angels to help him.
Thanks,
TT

"Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you?" Lk 6:46
Your bro's right that God can save the kid, and He can save you as well. You also have an obligation to help save the kid if you can; your life is precious to God, true, but so is the life of the person in danger. On balance, you really have to gauge (1) whether you'll survive, and (2) whether you can endure watching someone die as you do nothing.

Acting for the good of the least of Christ's brothers is doing it to Christ Himself. That's what Christ said in Matthew 25:40.

Yeah, I know this verse, I v told him too , actually. But he said even if u saved the kid, who knows he would be saved or not, he would accept Christ or not?
If the kid turns out to be an unbeliever, but u died for him, that is unworthy.

Your brother is selfish!

He then tried to put on a guilt trip with all this giving to all these organisations.

I wouldn't even have think twice, I would save that person.

i'm sorry, but what your brother is saying is nonsense.

what your brother is suggesting is that the non-believers are inferior to us, which is totally untrue! laying down your life down for His glory, whether he's a believer or not, would be the highest honor you could get!

One of the reasons God sent us to this world is so that we could bring more lost children to His loving arms, and if he is saying that they are not worthy, then our purpose here is lost.
Each soul is precious to God, more precious than anything else, and if he's saying that they are "unworthy", please tell him kindly that his suggestions are not Biblical.
Hope you have an awesome day!

Brother in Christ,
Danny Kim

Bingo. Who is worthy of Christ's death?

"Someone would almost not die for even a good guy, but God demonstrates his own love for us in this: Christ died for us while we were still sinners." paraphrase of Rom 5:7-8

Are we more worthy of our lives than Christ is?

But this is theoretical. In practical terms, we are much more reluctant to put our lives on the line for someone else. It's simply a natural fact, and it does have moral implications: "you shall not kill" applies to yourself too.

But we're told to think highly, closely, and more deeply concerned for other people. That's what "sacrificial love" is in Scripture. That little word "love" -- as in 1 Cor 13 -- is "agapao" -- it's love that's interested in the well-being of the person loved, and disregarding our own hurt or self-esteem or honor.

Doing acts that cost you your life -- they do take seriousness. But they are not cut & dried. They have to be done with the extreme concern God has for the person in danger -- and for you. Because God loves you both, cares inestimably about you both, and He will be offended (and you'll be asking forgiveness) if you don't take both into account.
