  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw this list posted a while back on a friend's blog. It literally made me cry.

I Am...

I am the boy who never finished high school, because I got called a [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] everyday.

I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.

I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.

I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights.

We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.

I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.

I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.

I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.

We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.

I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me.

I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.

I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.

I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.

I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.

I am the woman who died when the EMTs stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual. (yes, this actually happened)

I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I didnt have to always deal with society hating me.

I am the boy tied to a fence, beaten to a bloody pulp and left to die because two straight men wanted to "teach me a lesson."

I am the woman who was raped to "make me straight again."

I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.

I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.

I suspect there is nobody who is untouched by this vile prejudice. If anyone is searching for that which is truly an abomination in God's sight, it doesn't take much working out where it is to be found.

I am the person who was sent to a reparative therapy facility which taught me to hate myself for who I am, and my desires for what they are, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to find love.

Lord, have mercy.

I am the person who was told I could not be a Christian because I am attracted to people of my own sex.

Christ, have mercy.

I am the person who was excommunicated (and shunned) from my church when I confided my same-sex interests to the pastor, who promptly told the church council and the bishop.

Lord, have mercy.

I am the person who was fired from a job when my employer found out I had a same-sex partner -- which is perfectly legal in my state because there are no laws protecting GLBTs from being fired solely because of their sexual orientation.

Christ, have mercy.

I am the person who was told he/she is a "Godless, atheistic fornicator who is doomed and damned and destined to burn forever in Hell" because I have a same-sex partner of 17 years.

Lord, have mercy.

I am the person who lost his faith because too many people who claimed to be "loving the sinner and hating the sin" used the Bible as a weapon to "convict" me of my sexual orientation, while they used the same Bible to let themselves off the hook for their sins of pride, insolence, haughtiness, arrogance, conceit, condemnation, narcissism, egotism, self-righteousness, cruelty and smugness -- I'll be damned if I ever set foot in a church again.

Christ, have mercy.

I am the person who is 80 years old and never truly loved anybody, never had a relationship, hated myself for who I am and whom I'm attracted to -- and am now lonely and isolated and waiting for my life to be over.

Lord, have mercy.

I am the person who looked at the behavior of Your followers, decided that I'd be better off burning in Hell than acting like them if that's what Christianity is all about -- and have rejected Christianity, in toto.

Christ, have mercy.

Mathew Shepherd was killed because he sexaully assaulted one of those straight men while negotiating sex for drugs (prostitution). Let's get our facts straight.

It is the gay lifestyle, not homophobia responsible for these things. Sin has a cost to it.

Peace.

So he brought it upon himself, did he?

What about the lesbians raped to "turn them straight again"? Did they bring that upon themselves too?
unfortunately, i am not allowed to debate in this forum or i would be more than happy to help you.

I'm a little...angry right now.

It's so hard to keep faith in hope when there are so many disgusting people in the world. Or people doing disgusting, violent acts...whichever.

To all the people who struggle fighting for their basic human rights: I support you. As a person who was born never violating any fictional human boundaries (except for the fact that I'm a woman, and we know how much women have had to struggle to be considered human beings), I support you. Someday we will rise above hatred and violence. Hopefully religion will be able to rise above these things as well.

Funny, nobody I know has ever heard of those "facts". Care to PM me as well?

First of all, I'd be inclined to regard this comment as "justification" for what happened to him, which is unacceptable. Would you support it if he had been Christian instead of homosexual, and they had beaten him to death because he had tried to preach to them? Why the double standard? Also, could you please cite your sources on that claim? I'm under the impression that it didn't happen as you state.

Quoted from wikipedia:
"During court cases both of the defendants used varying stories to defend their actions. They attempted to use the "gay panic defense", arguing that they were driven to temporary insanity by Shepard's alleged sexual advances toward them. At another point they stated that they had only wanted to rob Shepard and never intended to kill him. The prosecutor in the case charged that McKinney and Henderson pretended to be gay in order to gain Shepard's trust to rob him.[11] During the trial, Chastity Pasley and Kristen Price (the pair's then-girlfriends) testified under oath that Henderson and McKinney both plotted beforehand to rob a gay man. McKinney and Henderson then went to the Fireside Lounge and selected Shepard as their target. McKinney alleged that Shepard asked them for a ride home. After befriending him, they took him to a remote area of Laramie where they robbed him, beat him severely (media reports often contained the graphic account of the pistol whipping and his smashed skull), and tied him to a fence with a rope from McKinney's truck. Both girlfriends also testified that neither McKinney nor Henderson were on drugs at the time."

I'm a little disgusted at your comment. No one is going to change your opinion, but if you're going to post "facts" such as you have to presumably justify his brutal murder, I darn well better see some sources. The "sin" of murder should not be justified because they murdered someone living in what you deem a "sinful lifestyle." Period.

It's hard for me to stomach these cruelties. It is also hard to hold to the guidelines of this forum regarding the debating of the morality of homosexuality.

I will say, very carefully, that the topic of the hardships of gay folks seems to be just outside of the boudaries of the rules of this forum.

On that topic, I'd like to say that I am sickened by the abuse suffered by gay folks. Sickened.

I live every day knowing that God is wise and just, and not petty nor vindictive.

If Heaven is devoid of gay souls, I will question whether I ended up in the right place or not.

The widipedia article is a joke and so slanted as to be hardly a source at all.

I actually started a thread about MS in June in the debate forum.

The source, is of course the police dectives who investigated the murder and the statements of the perpetrators.

From the thread:

I don't know why anyone would state this is a hate crime other than politics as the police detectives and the only witnesses (offenders) agree this was a robbery for drugs. The only thing linking this to homosexuality is the fact the murderers new that it was easier to lure a victim out of a gay bar due to the lifestyle. If Sheppard had not groped one of the murderers, it could have been a different story that night.

Also, if you want to print a list of crimes against homosexuals then how about if we start listing crimes commited by them ?

And what's your take on this ? The media never even really carried this story at all even though the victim was younger and more vulnerable than Sheppard.

Quote:
Justice Served In Jesse Dirkhising Murder Case
Washington, DC - "The conviction of homosexual sadist Joshua Brown for the torture, rape, and murder of 13-year-old Jesse Dirkhising, is a relief to those of us in the pro-family community," said Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, Chairman of Traditional Values Coalition. "Brown has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping Jesse, but still faces life in prison on the murder charge."
... "Why is the death of Jesse Dirkhising of less importance than the death of Matthew Shepard at the hands of two killers? Is it because discussing the perverted lifestyle of Jesse's murderers isn't politically correct?"

I just think the gay rights movvement could maybe find a better poster boy for their gay messiah than MS.
