  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't believe such a poll. The acceptance that we do see, however, is based on ignorance of the Word of God. So many people need Jesus, and are so easily swayed by the "Immoral Majority".

Yes, times are a-changin'. You haven't described a church--but rather a social club!

Get ready for the Tribulation, folks! Jesus is on His way to judge the world.
I'm not worried about that. I worry about global warming, but not the return of Jesus.

The Bible is not the Word of God as described in the Bible, it is not the Logos. That would be equating the Bible with God and therefore idolatrous. And no interpretation - mine, yours, the Catholic Church's, the Foot-Washing Baptist Church of Minnesota (left-foot first)'s - is the only true and for all time interpretation.

Oh and by the way - Christ's return is not imminent. Christ is immanent in the world, in everyone and everywhere. Including in our guy and lesbian brothers and sisters. Much as I wonder about His presence in fundamentalism, He's even present there. Though no-one seems to be listening to Him there. They much prefer the sound of their own voices.

I'm not saying the Bible is a thing to worship, but it is the Word of God. Again with the book of John:

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.

In no way am I saying bow down to the Bible, but if with what John said that the Word was with and is God, and our Bible is composed of the Word of God then it is something that God would want for us to hear. He doesn't just speak words or inspire people through out history as a joke, the Bible is meant to be taken seriously and to heart, so we can better know Him.

Just as Christianity takes faith, it takes faith to Believe in Christ, faith to believe in the things He speaks to our hearts, and faith to believe the Word of God. It all comes down to faith, after that its just excuses and doubt. You either believe it or you don't. Quite simple.

PS: "The Bible is not the Word of God as described in the Bible" If it isnt what it says it is, it would therefore be lying... It seems like you lack faith in what the Bible says, that's very baseline, what makes you question the Bible in such a way? I'm concerned about that in you.

Let me make this clear: John 1 is talking about Christ, NOT the Bible. The Bible NEVER calls itself the Word. To call it the Word is IDOLATRY. I do not lack faith in the Bible, because I don't put my faith in a compendium of writings from 2000 years ago. I put my faith in the person that the Bible points to: the only living Word of God Himself: Christ.

The Bible is not divine.

I'm sorry you lack faith in what it says, I just pray that you seek His Will and not substitute your own. Regardless I'll pray for you as my sister, God bless.

In Jesus' name I offer: Be wise, and careful about whom you call, "sister".

So maybe you should be more careful about making arrogant claims that other people are not His, just because they disagree with your homophobic reading of a 2000 year old book.

You might be speaking to people who are holier than you.

When people openly say they don't believe that the bible is God's word, that Jesus was not born of a virgin, that everyone is saved, and who denies that Jesus is the only Way for salvation--they are not brethren.

I'm not saying I'm holy, the very fact that would even considering calling yourself "holier" makes a huge crevice in your credibility about your faith. Don't you know that you should not consider yourself more highly than you ought?

I am nothing and I only speak up for what I believe.

I see this going no where and your ears/eyes, are not open. God bless you all, I do pray that a simple debate could be seen from both sides for you. In love I sign off from this topic.

Btw, I apologize for missing the gender sign.

Not sure if this belongs in the Theology Forum, but move as necessary if needed.

This is more of an ideal question for both the straight Christian and homosexual Christian.

I'm not sure how many "proclaiming" homosexual Christians there are here, but I was curious...

How do those who struggle or have struggled with homosexuality feel when fellow Christians speak of their "sin" in such a horrid light.

And how do those who actually are mindful and humble about themselves go addressing this issue.

In my mind, yes I would say that it is not Christ like, BUT I cannot talk about it in some ways a lot of people do, for me sin is black and white, the sin of homosexuality is just as bad as lighting up a cigerate or cussing your car out. I feel that there are a lot of Christians out there that are very judgmental when homosexuality is brought up...

Last thing I would want a brother or sister in Christ to do to me if I were struggling with something was a negative attitude towards my struggle and condemnation.
Struggled here...
I do not consider it an oxymoron at all to be homosexual or a Christian...

Consider myself Bisexual/Straight...hmmm who knows...still uncertain at times...

:)

Why are some people so fixated on sex? Why do you care if a loving gay couple has sex in their own bedroom? It's no different from a loving heterosexual couple having sex in their own bedroom. And we have no business sticking our noses into the bedrooms of consenting adults.

Being gay is about loving our spouses, about creating and raising families. Sex is just one part of a much bigger relationship. It's no different from heterosexual relationships and families.
Because people have nothing better to do anymore in their lives...and its just homosexual couples...its all couples...people want to make sure that nobody is doing any "sinful" acts in the privacy of their bedroom...Better only be having missionary style sex and thats that...;)

Seriously...if more people would mind their own business and concentrate on more important issues such as poverty, or illness(physical, mental and spiritual), then maybe we could actually better the world...

I'm not saying the Bible is a thing to worship, but it is the Word of God.

Sorry, but no; there's no passage of Scripture which uses the phrase "the Word of God" (or "the Word of the Lord") to clearly and unambiguously refer to Scripture.

Similarly, nowhere does Scripture refer to Scripture as inerrant or infallible.

It does describe itself as theopneustos and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

But not as the Word of God.

David.

As the Apostles regard Scripture as inerrant and vital, and the word of God, so should we.

Do think it may be the word of god as interpretted by man?

Or man's interpretation of god without god's influence?

I'm really interested in your opinion on this
