MODERATOR APPLICATION GUIDELINES

In order to apply to be a staff member, you should have at least 200 posts in the last 3 months, with a number of substantial posts within the category you wish to mod.

Moderator applications, voting, and commentary will be private to protect the applicants confidentiality.

Staff will review the members posting style, warning/infraction record, and other information as needed.

Staff Participation:

Regarding participation:
From the members of the *team to which the applicant applied:
1 post, 1 clarification/retraction post
1 vote.

From staff members not on the application team
1 post, 1 c
larification/retraction post
no vote.

Commentary
All commentary must be entered into the application so it can be addressed by the applicant, either by the commenter or the staffer receiving it. Attacks on applicants which are of a political or religious (etc) nature will result in revocation of mod app voting/commenting rights for 1 year.

Vetos
The team admin may veto all votes.

HR may veto all votes based upon information which may not be available to staff.

Non-Christian Staff
Non-Christian mods as a general rule may not moderate the following categories on CF. Exceptions may be made by admins in conjunction with Lee and/or his advisors.

 • Congregation
 • Theology
 • Ministry
 • Edification
 • Outreach
Prior admin approval is required in order for non-Christian mods to apply for the following categories.
 • Life Stages
 • Recovery
Non-Nicene applicants are encouraged to apply for non-Nicene forum positions, but the ratio of non-Nicene to Nicene staff in such forums may not exceed 33%.

* Admins may choose to substitute their own policy for team operations as concerns commentary by their team.

Interviews:

Interviews via msn are encouraged, pm interviews are acceptable. The use of an essay question to be returned via PM is highly encouraged, and each team may customize the essay question as best fits their area.

An interview template is attached below.

Interview questions
 1. If a Christian, cover all questions, if not, skip to #9
 2. Do you believe in God?
 3. Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God?
 4. Do you believe in the Trinity?
 5. To which faith do you belong to?
 6. How long have you've been a ______ and attended the _______church.
 7. Do you accept the Nicene Creed?
 8. How did you become a Christian and please share a short testimony about your journey in your faith and how you came to our faith.
 9. What kind of volunteer work have you done or are you involved in any ministries or hope to be involved in some ministries and what ministries?
 10. Do you have any prior experience as a website administrator or moderator?

 11. Do you understand the chain of command on CF?
 12. Being a moderator can be a thankless jobs at time... and that is okay because this is our ministry. Sometimes the members can be critical and how do you handle criticism?
 13. One of the other things about being a moderator is that we are to remain neutral in the forums that we moderate. Can you maintain a neutral stance, even if you personally disagree?
 14. How much time would you be able to commit to CF
 15. What goes on in the moderator's area of the board is confidential. Are you good at keeping confidentiality...
 16. Do you have any questions at this time?
 17. Do you have any other accounts on CF?
 18. Team specific essay question to be returned via PM
Example essays:

Friendship: If there was a conflict of posters in Blessings Exchange about a blessing raffle, and this even extended to private messages, explain how you would handle this?

Debate:If, in Non-Christian Religion, a thread contained a good discussion but also a large amount of veiled flames and spam, how would you deal with this?

Recovery: If a young woman posts in Survivors of Abuse, a thread describing in detail several episodes of violent sexual abuse, how would you deal with this

Cross Team Operations and transfers:

It is not necessary to repeat an interview to transfer teams. Complete agreement between both incoming and outgoing admins is required.

Cross team operations and sharing of staff is highly encouraged, however, it may be prudent for new staff to wait 90 days to get the feel of a single team before doing so.

Admins may for a short period (not to exceed 30 days) of time operate cross teams at a supervisor level.

Admins and Superadmins:
Are by appointment by Lee and/or his advisors only.

Should a staff member want to be considered for an admin or superadmin position, they should make their desires know to Lee's advisors.

The ratio of admin to team members should be between 6:1 and 12:1, but this is only a general guideline.

Staff Removals:

Staff serve at the pleasure of the CEO, and may be removed at will.

Admins are responsible for their teams, and may remove staff if need be, but transfers to another team may be considered, provided both incoming and outgoing admins agree.

So why 3 months and not 6 like it used to be. Still 3 months is better than non but I like the six month waiting period. and wasnt it 500 post too?

We can only look back to the date on the last 200 posts... In the past, we had active posters, who would leave for nearly 5 months, and then return, expecting things to be the same. With the rate of change, being active and currently involved is more critical than total time.

Essay questions have been discussed for over a year in numerous places in order to get a better handle on who would work well, and who might run into problems. The interview questions do help, but folks do fall through the cracks. Essay questions hopefully will assist in making the call.

Question just out of curiosity. Will the "technical" requirements (E.G. post requirement, and other criteria such as that) be flexible, or are they to be used as simple protocol that can't be overruled if a candidate for the position is exemplary in other regards that may compensate?

I'm asking because I think the "soft skills" requirements should be the critical factor of moderation.

I find it a little ironic that our itinerant new CEO would not meet the post requirements to be a moderator for the site.

I just applied. I think that some clarification on the religion icons would have been helpful. Until about 5 min ago, I was listed as a non-nicene Christian! (Christian-seeker icon).

Is that something that can cancel me out of a staff application? I truly was not aware of that clarification, and would not have chosen that icon if I would have known.

I have one problem, here:

with a number of substantial posts within the category you wish to mod.

The area I am most active in, has since the 7/7/07 reforms, has for all intents and purposes, died, or is dying a slow death.

So how is it that a person must have a substantial amount of posts within that area?

Now I have 200 posts just since Oct. 30th, 2007. But this is mostly in the formerally congregational area, and one area of the theology section.

Would the fact that one was in the past a moderator be taken into consideration?

God Bless

Till all are one.

Hi,

No, that would not cancel out your application.
