It is mainly for CCC members who have signed out in protest. Guests are welcome but you may not like what we have to say. No one is being attacked, but we at least have this last little safe space to talk to one another without being gagged and threatened with a ban.

That's good to know. In the past, they were located in a differently shaded box at the bottom of every post, which ensured that a persons reputation preceded them in every single post they made. At least it's nice to know that the moderators need to expend a bit more elbow grease with this system to get to them.

Which is really why usernotes are pointless. It doesn't take much to figure out who a persons sockpuppets are (IP check, please!). Everything else is automated, and should be as easy to collect as the usernotes are.

But, I think that's neither here nor there. This is how things are going to be run now.

I think they are primarily useful for FSBs, so that a moderator can tell at a glance if somebody is FSB'd. Of course, that means the usernote needs to be removed in a timely fashion when the FSB is over.
