  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Was Nostradamus a "false prophet"?

Look guys I'm just tryin' to have a little fun while asking a serious question:):)I truly can't resist asking about this haha:blush::blush:

I am aware that this man has allegedly been able to predict some events in the future that very coincidentally came out to be true (as far as I recall but I don't know specifics), but does anyone know much else about him, whether or not he could be categorized as a "false prophet"?

Thats a very good question. Something else we could ask is what did he actually claim about himself if anything? I have the quatrains in the french, along with a translation and have read them. If i remember right too wasnt he raised according to Jewish tradition?

NewGuy is right. He was also wacked on drugs. He got far more wrong than he did right. Far, far more. The other thing is, it's like when people go to a tarot-card reader... they'll see themselves and their situation in what's being said if they want to, despite the tarot reader being as vague as possible in order to allow absolutely anyone to relate.

The closest thing, as far as I know, is he possibly predicted Hitler. Except, I believe he called him Hister. But even that... given how many prophecies he made... It's like the theory that if monkeys typed randomly for an infinite amount of time, they'd eventually come up with Shakespeare's entire works. Had Nostradamus've come up with nothing that seemed close, that would be unlikely.

He mostly talked about natural disaster, war and murder. All of which are a part of life, anyway. So, personally, I wouldn't prescribe to the notion that he's any kind of prophet.

He is not in the bible, and he was not a prophet. He was just a man that predicted future events.

Demons could possibly predict, for they can cause many problems now and in the past, and including future. I am VERY leary of these types, I stick to the word. God wants us sensible, alert, and smart common sense christians.

This girl knows her stuff.

Once his prophecy of the world ending in 2012 falls to pieces, then i'm hoping most of his believers will finally realize what a fluke he was.

It's sad to see people waste themselves on such incredibly ridiculous things.

If anyone takes the time to read his specific predictions as they're written, they'de soon find that he isn't a "false" prophet... he's no prophet at all.

Lots of WIERD things and most are so vague, that they have to be completely reinterpreted to fit anything remotely similar.

I predict, that within 50 years there will be some wars. There will also be famine...somewhere. I also predict that there will be droughts, specifically in the desert-type regions.
Oh, and people are going to due between now and then...lots of them.

Now sit back and watch the miraculous!:p

A while ago I watched a documentary on Nostradamus, apparently he was very interested in history and had a wide range of books from many historians, he had a philosophy that history will repeat itself, which is true in a sense, volcanoes erupt, wars break out, cities are razed to the ground, monarchs die. According to the commentator in the documentary Nostradamus made his predictions based on what has happened in the past and worded them sufficiently vaguely so they could be interpreted to match any slightly similar situation.

I definitely think now that he is full of horse puckey, but I have to tell you, I saw a documentary on him when I was a teenager, and it scared the you-know-what out of me. Seriously, it did. I wish they wouldn't make such a big thing out of him on places like the History channel. It's scary for kids.

I really hate the relativistic secular biases of the history channel...
yeah. can you bet how many history documentaries are pro-Christian? :sigh: probably none (although I don't watch the History Channel - I avoid as much TV as humanly possible)

What up peeps!

ah the good ole Hitler Channel (aka history channel). One of my favorite games with some of my history minded friends is to guess the topic of "Modern Marvels" whenever we see it listed in the TV programming guide... as a rule it is almost never modern, and usually not very marvelous.

some of my personal favorite topics have included "the pyramids" "cemetaries" and "leather".

my vote on Nostradamus goes to occultism, probably enhanced by drugs... but people like to feel tingly and he provides a good spine tingle every once in a while.

ya, the History channel -- my husband's former brother in law had just become a Christian over a year ago, and he started going to church & watching TBN etc. (anything Christian, he was hungry for it).
So...... one Sunday aft. the history channel has some thing on the Disciples...
he calls our house after the documentary and is full of questions and doubts as to what the truth was.

I get so mad at that show's bias and false information.

Hi Cromwe =)
