  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is premarital sex immoral or not? What is your opinion?

My opinion is that premarital sex is not immoral. Promiscuity, rape, and prostitution are immoral. The Bible only condemns sexual immoality, not premarital sex.

However, this thread is not about promiscuity, rape, and prostitution. It is about premarital sex so lets keep it to that topic ok?

I can find nothing inherently wrong with pre-mariatial sex.

There are times when it is bad due to other circumstances such as someone taking advantage of another person, but in and of itself is not bad. (Just like how eating cake is not necessarily bad, however if you over-eat it, then it could become bad)

I'm perfectly okay with premarital sex. My question is, why should one wait until they're married to have sex? What if you choose not get married? Do you expect that person to remain a virgin for the rest of their life? I mean, you have to have sex at some point. At this point, I don't see myself getting married, but seriously, I'm not going to abstain from sexual activity, I refuse to do so. That's just me.

However, I feel that sex can be treated as something that you can save until you're married or just something you do for pleasure. I've said this before and I'll say it again, people have the right to make choices about their own sex lives. If that means choosing to abstain from sex until marriage, that's fine. The same goes for those who engage in sexual activity before they're married. (or if they choose not to get married)

Are you guys crazy? Think about it, when you go to sell your daughter off to her prospective husband and it's found she's not a virgin he won't want her! She'll be worthless and out on the street!

Oh wait, we don't live in the bronze age anymore, my bad.

Premarital sex is morally neutral.

Premarital sex is not immoral. It does not diminish the worth or value of any individual, male or female, gay or straight, in any way whatsoever.

If you're not equipped to do it safely (with appropriate use of birth control, emotional maturity, and psychological stability), then it's probably not a good idea to do it. Premarital safer sex between consenting partners is otherwise morally neutral.

Unless you're with an amazing sex partner, and then it's fantastic. ;)

I have to be careful how I say this...

avoiding premarital sex can increase the potency of marriage,

whether a man to a woman, a woman to a woman,

or a lifelong commitment to God. That's what I chose. My first "encounter" was with God itself, and when you look at sex as "union," being one with your partner... that's what happened. The experience could be described as "sex," but it could as easily be described as a commitment to lifelong celibacy.

Not from what I've seen. Avoiding premarital sex (and postmarital sex with anyone but your partner) seems to me to be kind of like eating apples your whole life but swearing that apples must be better than strawberries (even though you've never had them).

I've had a long-term relationship where we were both virgins, and I've had long-term relationships after I had more sexual experience. The latter were infinitely more satisfying.

Then why not just take down you affiliation with the Methodist Church?:( :(

What is it with you guys and thinking you get to CHOOSE what is moral and immoral?

Premarital sex is FORNICATION. That's sexual immorality.

I guess this goes right along with the homosexual foolishness that they are not fornicating because they are in a committed long term relationship.

Abject foolishness.:(

Maybe I'm a prude, but I can't seem to get on board with premarital sex. There's a sexual bond that exists that needs to be treated with some level of seriousness.
I respect your opinion, but I disagree. I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about, but there is an emotional/chemical bond that forms in the brain due to large amounts of sex with one person (that is, that it forms a small bit with each act of sex). However, it is usually not very strong after only one sex act.

Anyway, I think that each person has to decide for themself if they wish to have premarital sex or not. I will state that 90% of people, in the US, have premarital sex, and so I feel it is foolish to expect everyone to remain virginal until marriage.

Well, its not foolish if you don't pregnant before your ready... wait a second, your not a woman. What worry would you have then? What concern is it to you if everyone around you had sex before they were married? It's no affect on you. It's not you whose having sex. Therefore: what is the problem?
