Hi all,
I was reading Jeremiah this morning. Check this out.
Jeremiah 33:19-21; 25,26
19 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: 20 "This is what the LORD says: 'If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time, 21 then my covenant with David my servant...can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne.... 25 This is what the LORD says: 'If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed laws of heaven and earth, 26 then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.' "
Our Lord is talking about how unbreakable His covenant is with rebellious Israel, the nation that broke His heart with idolatry and human sacrifice. Regardless, He will save them through David's descendent, Jesus. If our mere thoughts have no power to break or even change sunrise and sunset, then are we capable of breaking God's covenant relationship with us through Christ?
This reminds me that we have not entered an ordinary relationship here. This is God's covenant, God's will that moves forward and is in His hands. Thank our Lord that just as we are powerless over the arrival of day and night, we are powerless to hinder God's salvation through Christ. "It is finished." We can rest in the fact that this has been God's eternal plan. I rest assured that God does not make a fragile covenant.
