  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How does a Christian have assurance that Jesus died for his sins?

If he is an Arminian, he simply points to several scriptures which say that Jesus died for everyone.

If he is a Calvinist, he denies such scripture texts exist. He can only rely on the testimony of the Holy Spirit.

However, the doctrine of Total Depravity also teaches that sin is so recalcitrant as to make an unregenerate person so confused as to think he is a believer.

Consequently, how can a Calvinist have assurance that Jesus died for his sins? Maybe the Calvinist is deluded about his belief in Jesus, due to depravity. Maybe Jesus never died for him in the first place.

Good Day, Benjamin

I have bolded the part that in question, who teaches this as part of depravity, seems you have been mislead....

the implied tone in both your threads reeks of a desire to debate. This room is for legitimate questions not debate. If that is your intention there is a room to debate Calvinists. BTW I believe you will find it very difficult to defend your postions in this place. The wise man never confronts the lion in his own den.

Jude 1 testifies we are preserved in Jesus Christ. So we see Preservation of the saints here. I don't think a Calvinist would object. I gives much support to the "P" in the Calvinist's TULIP acronym, called perseverance or preservation of the saints. I debated endlessly that a believer could lose salvation, but the words of Jude silenced my complaining. If salvation by grace through faith is true, preservation logically follows and to this doctrine Jude gives testimony. Since preservation is true, so is salvation by grace through faith.
