Due to our recently declared independence we are not cumbered with the lengthy rule process of the Main section.

Our rules are up and ready to go. And quite simple ones they are!

Now we have to turn to a few housekeeping measures.

How do we want to handle bans?

Thoughts?

if a person needs to be banned I suggest it be progressive in nature. Something like 1st offense gets a warning, if they continue and require a 2nd warning then suspend for one week or two depending on what it is... if they are blatant maybe 30 days, then they can be reinstated... I guess we need to be clear and make it clear the behavior or action that can result in disciplinary action.

The ban criteria should be as lenient and simple as possible.

I have another question in regards to post reports here. Since it is obvious some of the Trads are reading the threads here, it is inevitable they will report many of the things we say in here which are not regulated by the main forum rules. They will find offensive things we do not even remotely find so.

Shouldn't we alert Longhair and the rest of our Prog mods that if a post is reported from the Prog subforum by a Trad, it should be an automatic nv? That only reports from a Prog should be considered?

Hi 7DA's! I would not normally post here and especially in a rules discussion. However, we are developing a ban protocol that is much more lenient than the site wide one. Would you like a link to see ours? We have borrowed stuff from other forums and tweaked them to suit us. I would be glad to share ours with you to help you get started on this.

A. Members should follow forum rules. If a traditional feels one is violated they have the right to report.

B. However, we could put in a spite reporting rule. There used to be one in the old CF rules. Essentially this means if someone continually reports NV posts on a particular person they themselves can be hit with a warning.

Yes, I think a spite-reporting rule could be the way to go because, as far as I know, we are not allowed to make rules that would entirely prohibit TSDAs from reporting people here. What we should do, though, in the meantime is make sure the current mods are aware of our new rules here so that they don't get after people for debating. Thanks, Night; your post reminded me of that. I'll PM them.

I know this might not help much, but...

...as grace oriented, lenient, and merciful as is Christianly possible.

I don't anticipate too many problems here because we don't have too many rules, and everyone is welcome to debate. Under the old system, one of the most common reasons that people were reported in the SDA forum was because of the old rule limiting debate in the congregational areas. Since that rule no longer exists in this sub-forum, that will make moderating a lot easier.

We'll still have some flaming and accusations of flaming, and I think most forums have to deal with spam and trolling at some point. Some egregious offenses (like spamming the forums with obscenity or profanity) would result in e-bans under the main rules, so we wouldn't really have to address them as a sub-forum.

We probably do need some kind of FSB policy here to deal with serious problems that would fall short of mandating a sitewide ban, but we want to welcome people here and not set things up so that they are always worried about being reported or getting banned. I also think that a spite-reporting rule would be a good idea because I think that may be a problem.
