  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do Christians Have Power Over Sin?

Yes we can overcome sin, but we still sin.

2 Corinthians 5:21
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

How can we become the righteousness of God? By repenting of our sinful ways. Do we still sin? Yes, because we are not 100% submitted to God. There are still areas in our lives where we sit on the throne, not God.

"Walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfil the lusts of the flesh" (Galatians 5:17).

If we submit ourselves to God and walk according to the Spirit, we will not fulful the lusts of the flesh, or sin if you will.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

This is as plain as it gets. First, submit yourself to God. Then resist the devil (and anything pertaining to him, imo) and he will flee. I believe that submitting to God's authority will greatly improve our spiritual walk, reducing the amount of sin in our lives.

Is that what you are looking for?

Can you find where it says we could live to where one would never need to trust in the cleansing blood of Christ anymore?

That wasn't what I said. It had been suggested in the thread that christians must sin, and I absolutely disagree with that idea.

Yeah, kinda.

I have asked this question many times in different threads, but can't seem to get a straight answer.

In the interest of fairness and full disclosure, I might say that it comes up whenever we are talking about any one of the blessings that God has given us. People will make an argument like this:

If God has given that to everyone, then why don't all christians have it? After all, if God wanted me to have ___________ then I would have it.

So I want to know, if christians have been given power over sin, why aren't christians sinless? No one yet has answered this question, though I have asked it many different times in many different threads.

So I thought that I would start a thread on just this one question.

Peace...

It's an unanswerable question. Not because you don't have a question you want answered, but because it's based on a faulty assumption. Where does the bible say that "Christians" are not sinless? How could Christ come to condemn sin in the flesh, but then turn around and decree that all Christians "must" sin? Goodness, that's not far from making Christ out to be the author of sin!

Are you talking to me?

I asked this question:

Do Christians have power over sin?

If not, why not?

If so, why do christians still commit sin? (edited for clarity, I will go back and edit the OP to say this if I can).

I do not see how the question makes any assumptions. Please explain?

But the implication is that "all" christians still commit sin, as if it were required. I do not believe that. I believe that sinless perfection in the Christian is possible.

What do you mean by "sinless perfection", as in absolute sinless perfection?

Ahhhhh.....

My apologies.

Do you mean possible theoretically? (As in it is technically possible, but no one has achieved it, other than Jesus?)

Or do you mean possible practically? (As in it is practically possible, and many people have achieved it?)

Even though I'm confident I'm about to get beat severely about the head and shoulders for it, I must say possible practically. I do not have an opinion on whether or not "many' have achieved it, nor for that matter on whether or not "any" have achieved it. Just that is has to be possible practically. (only speaking of born again Christians here)
