  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I want to see a full size version. If this boat is at a 1:5th scale to the fictional Ark then it’s total volume is 625 times smaller than it. Given the money that some of these mega-churches bring in, I know that there is at least one creationist capable of fully funding a project to build a full size replica.

I get a factor of 125.

So how 'bout we fill the boat with 1/125 worth of animals. Get a crew of 8/125 (measured in man hours) and see how long before the dung hits the fan even in dry dock.

Then what's the difference between a boat and an ark?

Point of departure: America (?)
Point of destination: Mt Ararat

I sincerely hope you're referring to the replica, not the original.

(Finally someone asked that!)

No --- but that's not the point I'm making.

Nor is it the point the Bible is making -- even your precious KJV says it was made out of wood.

A boat is a vessel made for navigation on water --- an ark is a containment box.

Arks can be boats, but not all boats are arks.

I personally don't believe Noah's Ark was a boat.

I'm referring to the real McCoy. It had to start somewhere. We know where it ended up, but not where it started out.

Nor is it the point the Bible is making -- even your precious KJV says it was made out of wood.

I'm lost here. The point I'm making is that no matter what it was made of, it would have served its purpose, as I'm sure God protected it on its "voyage".

If it wasn't a boat, how did it survive? Was it a submarine instead? What could it have been other than a boat?

Here are a couple observations of mine:
  1. It wasn't necessarily a ship --- it was an ark.
  2. IMO, it could have been built out of plastic, and still accomplish its purpose.

Where in the bible does it say that the ark was made out of plastic?

Funny that. You and I agree on something. I don't believe the Ark was a Boat either.

In other words, you must Invoke yet another Miracle to explain it. That's the whole issue I have with the Ark story. It is totally and completely impossible unless you invoke a Miracle at every turn.

How did Noah build the Ark = Miracle
How did the Ark Float = Miracle
How did noah fit all those Animals on the Ark = Miracle
How did all the Animals survive a year on the Ark = Miracle
How did all the Plants survive the Flood = Miracle
How did all the People today be decendants of just 8 people = Miracle
Etc, etc, etc....

Wouldn't you say that in order to get from America to Turkey by ship, navigation is required?

Yes --- and believe me --- Noah had the most advanced Navigation on earth.

Far, far more advanced than any GPS system we'll ever use.

Assuming, of course, That he knew how to follow the stars. Sailors have been using Stars since Man first learned to Sail but non-sailors, such as Noah who Never sailed a day in their lives, never learned to Navigate by the Stars.

Unless, of course, You're Invoking yet another Miracle.

Um ... I was talking more like ... God being in charge of everything.

Who was the real Captain of the Ark, DrkSdBls?

Interestingly enough neither verse mentions noah.

So I was right. You must invoke yet another Miracle to explain it.

Seems to me that God didn't have much Faith in Noah and had to pretty much do everything himself.

Afterall, Why did God need Noah to do anything if God was going to taking such an active part in the whole Venture.

The only Reason I can conceive of why God would give Noah this task was that God wanted Noah to do it himself, either as a Test of Faith or whatever, with no help from God. And if it took that much work from God, one must ask why wouldn't God just do it the simple way and do just one Miracle and do everything in one stoke himself.

Either God did nothing (except starting the Rain) with the intention of Noah doing it himself or God did everything himself with no need of Noah to do a thing. Either way, you have to wonder why things didn't quite turn out the way God intended.

14Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

Not plastic.

15And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
16A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

Also not seaworthy.
