  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes - particularly in open water. The wood would not have been strong enough to prevent gaps in the hull from opening. Essentially the only way the Ark would have stayed afloat is if Noah, his family and all of the animals were constantly bailing all of the water out. But the rough seas Noah would unquestionably have encountered would have ripped the Ark to pieces anyway.

There is a poll on that link asking "Do you believe there was a real Noah's Ark as described in the Bible?" At the time of this post, 82% had voted "Yes."

What is wrong with these people?
It's AOHell for one. It's a heavily self-selecting sample for two.

Aaaaaaanyway, I think it's fascinating. I would love to see it. Even if it is not 100% accurate, I think it's an amazing project.
(Yes, I am obviously one of the "people" RedAndy is talking about.)
The largest wooden ship ever built (in 1909), the Wyoming, was just over 100 meters from bow to stern, almost 40 meters less than the Ark was supposed to be. It required massive iron cross-bracing to handle the hull warping , together with steam pumps to keep the bilge dry. Despite all these technology, the Wyoming was never fully seaworthy - simply because of its own size and weight - and sank in 1924, killing everyone on board. There simply is no way to build a wooden ship the size of the Ark.

I want to see a full size version. If this boat is at a 1:5th scale to the fictional Ark then it’s total volume is 125 times smaller than it. Given the money that some of these mega-churches bring in, I know that there is at least one creationist capable of fully funding a project to build a full size replica.

Well, it's going to be a nice little earner for its owner. What it won't do is change the stacks of evidence against a global Flood.

They won't do it because they noah it would sink. Besides where are they going to get gopher wood?

Quite right. If they want to prove that it's possible, then they should Show us how it was done. Afterall, If one man can do it with little or no help, no means by which to do it and little time to accomplish it, then I'm sure that all the Creationists of the world could get together and easily do it successfully, right?

...at which point the creationists will evoke the tired defense of "With God, all things are possible."

But, are they not "With God?"

If they Fail, then appearently God doesn't back their efforts which only leads me to believe that He doesn't care about helping them to prove their story. If that's true, then why do people like Hovind work so hard to convince the rest of us of something that God doesn't care about and will not even lift a finger to help?

We need more then just their Say-so.

Here are a couple observations of mine:
  1. It wasn't necessarily a ship --- it was an ark.
  2. IMO, it could have been built out of plastic, and still accomplish its purpose.

It was expected to float, wasn't it?

Do you know how to make plastic?
