Sorry, but I've never seen "do this because I say so" as a very valid argument. Neither God nor you give a rational reason why this "forbidden zone" is forbidden.

Why should I avoid the site in question? Why does the petty offence of eating from a tree damn all humanity to hell? The answer is ultimately "just because".

Here's one. Because He said so, and He has the power to send you to heaven or hell. *shrug* I know where I'd rather go. But of course, then you'll give the argument of 'how do we know God is who He says He is' or 'how do we know the Bible is true'. Maybe even the argument that any God that would send someone to hell for disobeying Him isn't loving. What it ultimately comes down to is this: the Light came into the world, and the world loved the darkness rather than the light, for the very reason the site the OP gave- because mankind likes disobeying rather than obeying. Do you let a kid walk all over you when you are in authority?

If you think that God is good and not a jerk then you're going to have to do better than that. Now I'm going to go click the link for spite, because I know it's not ... apparently the filter won't let me say the name of what I was going to. You know, the internet girl in the tub. If you don't know, consider yourself lucky.

Thats the same rationale my students used to use when one kid wanted the swing and told the kid who was on the swing to get off.

No, but you also dont rule by threats
Neither was the Lord.

He did not issue a threat.

He warned of a consequence.

Oooooooooooooo.:liturgy:

From the Ebon Musing essay "Divine Blackmail":

"...An even more apt analogy might be a Mafia protection racket. Humanity is the shopkeeper, the helpless elderly man cowering behind the cash register, while God is the trench-coated mob enforcer making the proverbial offer we can't refuse. "This sure is a nice soul you've got here," the mobster sneers. "It would be a terrible shame if it were to meet with some unfortunate accident."

Exactly like the gangster demanding protection money, the God of these religions offers us a forced option which his proselytizing followers deceptively present as a free choice. This isn't love - this is extortion. If God cares so much about us, then why does he need to coerce our devotion with the threat of torture?

Some Christians argue that this is not coercion; that God does not send anyone to Hell, but actually wants to save us from that fate, and that people who live their lives in defiance of him and his laws are in effect choosing to send themselves there.
But such an argument contradicts everything Christianity has ever taught about the process of judgment. When you die and stand at the judgment seat, are you confronted with one door filled with glorious white and golden light, clouds floating serenely by in the background, the harmonious sounds of an angelic chorus drifting out, and with a sign reading "HEAVEN" over it in pure white light, and another door filled with flames and the screams of the damned and a sign reading "HELL" over it in flickering red neon, and God invites you to pick one? If this is not the case, then the situation is no different than the Mafia enforcer claiming that, by not paying protection, the old man is "choosing" to have his shop burned down..."

Stuff like the OP link, or anything "Way of the Master"ish are embarrassing and shouldn't be used on adults with normal intelligence.
Yes, I totally agree with you. I've seen some of the "Way of the Master" stuff, including the infamous "Are you good" test (I'm not sure if it was created by the WotM guys, but it's similar), and they only make God seem evil and Christianity seem like a weird cult worshiping a cosmic terrorist God who's going to torture you for eternity just because you're not perfect, if only you happen not to pick True Christianity(TM) as your religion.

As for the OP, the linked article doesn't really make sense, because there's nothing inherently immoral about disobedience, it all depends on what someone's disobeying...

LOL! I used to go to that site's movie review section after seeing a movie to get a good chuckle out of their reasons for the movie being "immoral", and of course to read the user reviews who are shocked by something like gore yet thought it would be a good idea to go see Saw or Hostel with their whole family.

Seriously now, this was pointless. So your god doesn't like curiosity? Big whoop, I don't care!
