Eh, Avatar is cool, but I don't consider it anime at all. It's kinda like wannabe anime, like Teen Titans and that other one with those preppy spy girls or whatever.

I like the story and character developement, but no, it's not anime. It's just the new style that every new cartoons seems to try to be making.

the makers of avatar created an anime-styled show. the "new style" IS anime. i repeat, so if real anime can only be from japan then can real pizza only be from italy?

nono, that's not what I meant... I mean... I dunno how to explain it. Hmm, I guess what I mean is, it's kinda mimicing anime, but it's not quite the same. There's still a gap between cartoons and anime, and Avatar fits into the cartoon category.

Calling Avatar anime would be like calling Bio Hunter or Hellsing a cartoon. I hope I explained what I mean... I'm not so good with words, lol.

I would say that Avatar is its ovwn style in itself. It's not meant to be or even mimic anime completely, it's only supposed to put an American twist on the art. Sure, some things are taken from original anime from it (like the facial expressions and the oversized eyes), but most other parts of the art are just anime-influenced.

There's a great description! I totally agree with you there.

yeah, that pretty much covers it. it isn't really an anime, you can see the difference if you look at the styles. every cartoon or anime has it's own unique style. if you watch enough of them, you can tell what show it is before the actual characters or voices come in based just on the style. it's both cool and creepy when it gets to that point.

I'm bored. Does anybody know when season three starts?

I'm still bored. So, who do you think is the coolest character? Give a name, a physical reason and explanation (hair, clothes, tattoo, ect.) and a personality reason and explanation (sarcastic, caring, youthful, ect.).

Women, I'm sorry but to avoid repition you must pick someone other than Zuko... I guess to be fair, guys can't pick a certain character either but we'll work that out latter.

Looking foward to your post!

According to a Pokemon magazine that got its source from the creators themselves, sometime during this summer.

I love Azula. Scratch that. I idolize her. She's fricken amazing in every way and I can't wait until this new season starts because no doubt she'll be in her element.

The primary difference between Japanese Animation and American animation (the high quality sort) is that Japanese Animation is based far more off of extremely artistic still-frames whereas American focuses more on fluid motions and dynamic scene composition.

Watch anime and you will begin to see just how many still frames are used (where only the mouths move or they have one still character moving against a still background).

The new American style (Avatar, X-Men: Evo, and even Samurai Jack) have distinct advantages as art. Yet, they still lack the sophistication in characterization and story telling that the Japanese often produce behind the animation. The Japanese simply have a different appreciation for High Art than Americans do (having had an entire class devoted to the development of art for centuries prior to the founding of the US).

America has some catching up to do, but they are well on their way. I'm glad they aren't directly copying the Japanese, just like the Japanese didn't directly copy Disney.

I know the differences. :D I've watched a good few of anime shows, especially Ouran High School Host Club, and yes, the differences are there. That's why many call Avatar American anime, because it takes its influences and subtle style and blends it with Americanized cartoon styles.

Which makes it all the more original in the end!
