  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Nothing in the Theory of Evolution discredits the bible.
Though the Bible discredits ToE!

Who would you rather believe - some 19th C. guy whose ToE the basis for atheistic communism or God?

[Joshua 24:15] But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

MY answer is NO WAY not at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What kinda question is this???….:sigh:
Not the best way to launch a discussion. Exactly why can't they exist?
I mean I don't think theory is perfect (I doubt we actually evoled from chimps, I'm not sure scientists know what neaderthalls are really like, and for the product of millons of years of evolution, we seem fairly backwards), but you can't deny some stuff, like animals chagning to their enviroments

The thing about evolution as described in the modern way is the emphasis on "random mutation" that totaly takes God out of the picture, anyone can see that good genetic traits are passed from one generation to the next and bad traits are weeded out, but how it is done? that is the question

If there are no random mutations then how do you explain the high proportion of pregnancies that fail due to genetic mutations incompatible with human life? Does God cause these mutations such that these babies cannot survive? Is God causing far more abortions than we ever can?

I don't see how one can say that random mutations cannot happen. Mutations happen in an apparently random manner, which cause much more harm than good. Those that do do good however, are positively selected through natural selection. All of this has been watched happening, especially in the faster reproducing species such as bacteria.

Actually it does not.

As for Charles Darwin, I believe God gave him the mind to see the patterns in nature and the intellect to work out HOW God used ther natural laws to create all that is.

I believe through God's wisdom and knowledge he created the theory of evolution to test our faith. Life has to have trials, but anyway. I am reinforcing what is said in the bible about how God spoke the universe, the earth, the plants, the animals, and people. He saw that it was good right? But like I said through his wisdom and knowledge he made it seem as though plants, animals, bacteria (+ the other kingdoms) evolved through the ages. Then, he created a man named Charles Darwin to make this theory. God allowed this theory to be discovered to test our faith in him.
The Bible is THE WORD OF GOD. Whatever it says we follow. If some people don't follow it we need to get them back into the herd so God can be our sheperd.
So you might be wondering if God created everything pure and clean, how did the theory of evolution come? Ill close with this. God loves us so much he respects our choices, if we die with mortal sin on us he will respect our choice and we will burn forever in hell. If we decide to accept Jesus through our free will we will live forever. Accepting Jesus means following the bible. So understant that God allowed the theory to be recongnized to test our faith with him.

I am 99.9999% sure that I am 99.999% off from the truth, so please correct me, because this is how I think. And I want to make sure I have the correct idea down. So priests or scholars please correct me :)

I voted yes as well. I agree with those that say Evolution does not take away from the truth in the Bible.

Evolution is a scientific theory. Science presupposes naturalism a priori. The Bible speaks of a supernatural origin. Thus science can never be fully compatible with the Bible.

Remember, science is not the same as logic.

You know, a creationist author once wrote (i forget which one) that if we find imperical evidance which contradicts our view of the Bible as we read it, we must not make the error of assuming that the Bible is 'wrong' but that our interpretation of it is 'wrong'. SoOO, evolution is not incompatible with Christianity, Just YOUR view of it.

It appears that whenever science is updated, that our understanding of the Bible has to then be updated.

The job of science isn't to find God. Science can be used as a tool to gather enough circumstantial evidence that indicates a creator though.

I think it hinders the believer when he/she is taught that we are to hold to the literal understanding of the Genesis creation account. Of course the readers and writers of that time were not up on Geology, Astronomy, Biology, etc. They wrote in the way people understood how things came to be.

Even fundamentalist Christians today teach Evolution. Micro-Evolution. If micro-Evolution occurs enough to a cetain point, then Macro-Evolution occurs. This is all that is denied by them on this theory of Evolution.

Random mutation is one of 4 tenets of the ToE.

It is very popular for scientists to tell students that the Pope has said that the ToE is not in conflict with the Catholic Church.
What the Pope said was that it was conceivable that human bodies evolved to the point that it could sustain a soul. And that was God's pupose. ToE is not compatible with Christianity with the "Random Mutation" tenent. Random mutation is part of the definition of ToE. It is a very clever ploy by scientists.

Athiesm took off at a lightning speed when people found a way to explain how the world came to be without God. Evolution does not work with religion. Either u believe in one or the other. The reason for this is that the whole reason that Jesus came to earth was to redeem us of the sin that adam made by taking the apple. If evolution is to be believed, this shows that this event never happened, and other people were on earth at the time. If we are to believe Evolution, it puts the bible in a place where people (christians) can say that it is not complete. THis discreditis the whole bible. Also remember that Charles Darwin didnt do anything for anyone, he was out there to make money. However Jesus Died on the cross for our sins.
